I am looking into getting a viper and from what I read the 96 GTS has forged internals from the factory. Is this true? I would do all the basic boltons and maybe a ROE SC in the future. What is the best year to get?

Hmm...That is a difficult question to answer. I will give an unbiased reply, which really has nothing at all to do with the 1999 model I own; it is merely a coincidence.

They save the best for last...... The FINAL EDITIONS. Dodge practiced making GTS's for 6 years just to get it perfect in 2002. Stronger factory frame, ABS, and many little improvements over the years.

There were fewer build issues than with any other year and they didn't have any RT/10's coming down the line to mess up their focus on the GTS's. Not that the RT/10 "gets" in the way, but it was the first time ever since they started building GTS's that they only had GTS's coming down the line. I was told that they got very good at getting them really tight and right on. I got this info from a factory employee. This is not someone's opinion either, they test each viper for quality before it leaves they factory and the FE's rated higher than any other year.

But in reality, all vipers are hand built and differ a little bit from one to another. If buying used, look for a clean, not wrecked, and well taken care of car 1st and foremost. To many wrecked cars out there with clean titles. Have a good eye look it over before you buy.

1999 is the best year bar-none!

I thought I'd add my completely non-biased opinion. Seriously, if you are looking to go forced induction, your best bet would be a GEN 2 up to and including 1999. Otherwise, just pick the one you want based on color, because they all rock!

Gen II's are easy enough to update or backdate that you really just need to get yourself a well cared for car, regardless of year.

Since your future includes modifications, I suggest you purchase a car already modified. You'll get the mods for pennies on the dollar.

1999 has the forged pistons and the lumpy cam, with the new interior stuff. It was an easy choice for me.

And can I run 93 octane in my car since the manual says 91 or will this hurt my motor?

At least I can spell genius :p It's ok though. If it makes you feel good to blast others on this board then by all means, feel free. Plenty of others actually have something worth while to say. :2tu:

01-02 if you want ABS. I flew off a track into a tire wall from locking up the brakes on my previous car, so ABS was a high priority item for me.

yep here is 1 more of 96 blue/white, if you buying a viper, you gotta go with blue/white, that's the REAL color for VIPER and BEST looking viper ever, all because the COLOR, and they do NOT make them anymore, took me 5 month to find this nice one here...........in other words, i will NOT buy any other ones if it's not a blue/white GTS...
