that is un friggin believable. hard to believe they clocked that bike at 205 when i would bet it couldnt top out at 175 off the showroom floor. unless it had some serious mods this is BS.

The first article I read about it said he was clocked from an airplane. They used a stop watch and clocked him between the painted white markings on the road surface.

A human flying a plane and operating a stop watch by hand leaves a lot of room for error. A half of a second delay in starting or stopping the stop watch could throw that speed rating all out of whack.

Just my .02 worth.

unless that kid weights 50lbs plus a few G's in mods, that bike won't do 205mph
Weight has nothing to do with top speed. Top speed is a factor of horsepower and frontal area. Those stock bikes are capable of 180-195mph. I did 175mph many years ago on my trusty steed ZX1100 and I can say that I felt safer doing those speeds in a bike than a car. It's a mindset, go figure.

That said, the 205mph figure is definitely an error due to the aircraft.

I agree that there was almost certainly an error in the calculation, but I'm still glad I'm not that guy's lawyer--somehow I don't think a cross-examination of "Isn't it true you could be off by x amount and my client might have only been going 175 mph?" would accomplish a whole lot! And you know when this guy is talking about this the rest of his life he will be saying the cop timed him as he was slowing down!

205 wouldn't be to far off. I had a 2000 ZX-9R that topped out at 175. Givin that this was a new 2004 CBR 1000 it wouldn't take much in terms of mods to get it up to around 200.

Gotta shop near me that is putting turbos on these things. I watched a dyno run at 548 at the rear wheel. I have to believe these things will do 200+.
