Clutch heat

Noticed if I am sitting in traffic for awhile crawling along in first for awhile that if I get into it right after that it sometimes seems like the clutch slips a little when I engage second. After I drive regular speed for awhile it goes away and seems to grab hard. Is this normal. Does the clutch get real hot in traffic and then not grab as good until you get moving and get some air moving through under the car?
