Thank you..
Is it just the pistons that are different??
Just read the 2002 brochure and it says forged pistons..

99 was the last year of the tuff engines...not that the creampuffs are really creampuffs. The Creampuffs ran smoother.

There are 2 main differences between the 96-99 and the 00-02 engines.
1. The Camshafts in 96-99 had a more aggressive profile than the 00-02.
2. The 00-02 engines had lighter cast pistons in them to try and recover the power that was lost with the milder cam.
Hopes this helps.

Actualy, thats not entirely true. The change to Hyperutectic (which has a high silicon content, making it stronger then cast) pistons was done for EMISSIONS and motor noise reasons, as was the cam shaft change. They had NO expectation of gaining power by going to Hyperutetic pistons, but did expect emissions to go down, and the engine to not make as much noise because hyperutetic pistons do not have as much torsional change due to heat, as forged pistons due, so they can run the clearances tighter on the pistons, which causes less emisssions, it ALSO makes the motors quieter as the piston is less likely to rock in the bore on cold start ups due to its closer fit.

Is it benifical to do a cam swap only, or are the gains minimal and doing an exhaust upgrade at around same cost better? Is there more to doing a cam swap then just swapping the cam?
