Do the SRT-10\'s have cast or forged pistons?
I assumed the Gen 3 motors are still "creampuffs" but thought I would check.

GEN II 2000-2002 cast pistons. All previous years are forged.

Coincidentally, the pistons went from forged to cast as well. The cast ones are lighter and actually free up a little HP in theory, but don't have the toughness to take more than about 5-6PSI in boosted applications since the ring lands are much closer to the top of the piston. Generally not an issue unless you are considering a high boost application.

DCX was making the Viper a better car overall, but not necessarily better for heavy modifications later on.
But nevertheless, there are some pretty quick "creampuffs" out there with the Hypereutectic cast pistons, and we can expect to see many very fast cast piston SRT-10 Vipers coming out as well, regardless of them not having stock forged pistions.

Emissions, apparently. The cast pistons expand less when heated, allowing the car to be built with closer toleranceds. It's still pretty irritating.

You can, but you just bought a $80K Viper. Now you want to put another $4000-$7000 into pistons? Warranty is gone too.

Actually the reason they went to the Hypereurectic piston was due to the fact they seal the cylinder walls better thereby reducing blowby.Basically the same reason the Z06 is using these pistons also.They are not to be confused with the cast piston of yesteryear they are actually pretty resilient, there downside is the short ring land which does not do well under extreme cylinder pressures with boost above 5psi
