I was told that a DOT 00 rating will be required for the helmets used at the VOI. How does the DOT rating compare to the required Snell 95 or better rating at most race or driving events I have attended?

I suspect a typo. SNELL 00 is the curent standard. To my knowledge, DOT does not rate helmets, and I hope they never do!

At past VOIs, no one tech-inspected helmets or vehicles for that matter........except at Viper Days.

DOT does rate helmets, it is a much easier standard than SNELL , but if you look at any helmet for sale in the USA it will have at least a DOT sticker and the better helmets have a SNELL rating also.
