Just got beat by a car length by 07 Z06. Seems like the vette is quicker off the line. Thinking of going to 3:55 gear to correct this problem.

Where is the best place to buy the parts and does Mopar offer a 3:55 gear? What is the typical labor cost for installation?

Thanks for your input.

Blue, Mopar does and I beluieve Dana does too. There have been a ton of posts on this so if you do a search you should find some good info.

Mopar numbers are:

P5007525 3:55
P5007526 3:73
P5007527 4:10

Hope this is of help.

I personally think 3.55 is too high for a car with as much torque as a Viper. I have a set of like-new, race-prep & polished 3.45s that I took off after only 5K miles (I replaced the set with some 3.33s).

3.55's are great for a stocker and fine for FI too.
Torque multiplication is a good thing. :)

I had the 3.55 gear installed on my 2006 coupe. Really like the gear. Got mine from parts rack.

Had 3:55's in my gen one-- I loved it! This will be a mod in the future on my new 06 coupe. I would skip shift--1st-- 3rd--5th. I think it's a better choice for the street unless you plan on looking for top speed. John

Well, there isn't anything in production now that is lower than 3.55 (3.45s stopped a year ago, and 3.33s stopped two years ago) ... so you don't have much choice ...

I can tell you that my 3.33s feel quicker than the 3.45s I had installed, but either of those were quicker than the stock 3.07s

The tuners will tell you that you LOSE 1/4 mile speed & time with anything higher than 3.45 -- even with a stock motor. But any of them are more fun than the stock 3.07s.

I have always picked up .2-.3 in the quarter with 3.55 as opposed to the 3.07.

Talk to Unitrax about gears, they are the best, most knowledgeable folks around. Ask for Devin.

3.55's work very well for a mostly stock car.

Vipermann,

You've said 'higher' several times in this thread, I suspect you mean 'lower'
