gen 1 gen2 motor differences

i need to buy a gen 2 motor and was wondering how can i tell the difference between a gen 1 and gen 2 motor? is there external differences?

Termostats on a gen1 is at the rear of the engine..
Also there are two throttle cables (Gen2 has a bar linking the TBs)
Gen1 has a water pipe on the left of the engine(as you sit in the car)

so is the motor in the 1996 rt/10 considered a gen 1? only 415hp and it has the parts gen 1's have.
