I don't know that you can switch out the posts in the first place.

You can switch out the posts and get it to fit but the gasket on the side is different for the windows to seal to. Did it on my 94 with a gen.2 hardtop.

My G1 came with a G2 hardtop. The previous owner switched the pins, and everything lines up/bolts The pins will switch, but the top doesn't work with the side curtains. I got a set of the Northwind windows, and couldn't figure out why the seal was so horrible until I realized the top was wrong; I'm going to have to build some new windows this summer.
