What are your cars idling at.
My car idles at 600 RPM. I thought it seemed low.
My local dealer says that's normal.
I think they say that because they don't know. At least thats the impression I got from the service writer.
What do you guys know?
It runs fine at 600 RPM.
Also, would the smooth tubes from a newer ACR fit my 94 RT/10.
I have smooth tubes now that I made and work fine. They just don't look as good as I think the factory one would.
Cheers,
TJ

If you want a nice looking set of smoothies check out Sean Roe's
kit at www.roeracing.com blk or red. I replaced all my factory tubes with his smoothies and also my rad hoses (5), looks nice under the hood.

Bigfoot:

My '01 idles at (what looks like) 550 RPM. Been that way from the factory and has not changed for 7,000 miles. Tough to compare with accuracy since I think the tachs are not that precise, but my understanding is that 500-600 is normal (at least on Gen2's).

Why would you think it is too low and that the dealer is lying to you?

My '00 idols at 600.

First off I didn't say he was lying!
Second of all they have almost zero experience with Vipers.
They've never sold a Viper and have only serviced mine.
So how would he know it's normal? Maybe he knows, maybe he doesn't is all I thought.
I appears as though he knew. Good for him ......"applause".
Most cars that I own and owned 03 Honda Pilot, 02 AMG 32 Mercedes, 02 SL 500, 99 AMG M55 SUV, 02 Chev 4x4 ext cab,
sold- 99,98,97 Dakota 4x4 ext cab, 84, 80 vettes etc...
They all seem to run around 800 RPM.
Thats why I asked the question Micheal.
Have a good day ey!

The 1st mark on your tach is not ZERO!

The normal idle 'appears' to be 600-ish but more like 750. Your dealer can hook up a DRB and see the digital RPM readout.

ACR hoses indeed fit non-ACRS, but they are bogus-expensive.

Several vendors here offer hoses from $49 (rubber) to $125 to ACR $240. YIKES

Be sure to get 5-layer induction hose, meant to hold up under vacuum/suction. Not 5-layer turbo hose, intended for pressurized use. We have seen turbo-hose begin to distort on a dyno at 4500 RPM plus. Too much sucking going on, esp w/ OE filters.

I thought the same thing with my 97. Went to the dealer, they hooked up the DRB...I was around 740. Like everyone else says....it's just tach error.

OBDII-Software (EASE) shows an idle rpm of 700-720 for my GTS.
