I need to buy new side exhaust covers. Before I do so - are there any recommendations on heat shields/insulators for the exhaust covers? The exhaust covers aren't cheap and I don't want to do this again.

Thanks

DO NOT WRAP THE CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will cause them to collapse.

Check with Sean Roe at Roe Racing. He has a new product coming out soon to help control side sill temperatures.

Check archives from last month or so for Sean's posts. The one I'm thinking of even had a picture showing the insulation material, Dave's hand and a small blow torch. Looked pretty convincing to me!

Have a look at this company: http://www.atpwrap.com/viper.htm

I just finished installing both sills, headers and collector
shields. It was a really easy install.

I can hold my hand on sill above the cat. area after hard runs through the canyons!. A/C works soooo much better.

Here's some pics of the process on my viper:

Re: Looking for recommendations on Heat Shields/Insulators for Exhaust Cove

If you are looking at the atp website, I used:
1D,4D,7D,8D and 9P,12P,15P,16P.
That pretty much covered the main heat areas without
any installation problems.
If you get into any of the other parts you will have to
be very specific about headers/pipes/cats/mufflers size/bend/shape as there are so many different setups.
Talk to Tim@ATP he's VERY informative about his products and
can steer you in the right direction.

Absolutely, positively no disrespect intended toward DC Performance or the folks at ATP, but...

You owe it to yourself to look at price / performance for this stuff. Check out Sean's product.

Get hi-flow cats
Get some Inconnel (sp?) insullation (it's high, but supposed to be very good)

Re: Looking for recommendations on Heat Shields/Insulators for Exhaust Cove

I contacted Sean at Roe Racing. They do have a product, but they are still testing it out on a couple of cars. Sean said to check with him in a couple of weeks. I assume it will be on his web site in a few weeks. Based on this info, I am going to wait and see what he has cooking.

Thanks for all of the feedback

The heat issue has always been big on the Viper. To really fix the problem, it can be expensive. The biggest bang for the buck is to vent the side sills and install high flow cats.

If you do the Inconel covers, you can eat ice cream with your toes.
