Ok so today i find out by pulling a carfax that the Viper i'm supposed to pick up next weekend had been in an accident in 01. The detail says:

Accident Reported
in Scott County
Involving left front impact
with parked motor vehicle
Moderate damage reported

Now the purchase agreement i had with the individual said no accidents or paintwork, which he probably didn't know about since it was before he bought it.

So i'm not really sure what to do. I really wanted that color combo and a year with the forged internals. Any suggestions?

Find out where the car was repair at, see if they can tell you if the frame was bent. If no bend, hell, it is just body work. If the frame was bent, pass on the car. If you do buy the car, negotiate a new price since it was in an accident.

Many many many Vipers especialy used 2nd 3rd owner cars have been in accidents. The only way to really check out the car is take it to an expert, most accidents dont make it to carfax.

It also says NO Collision Repair Facility Record Reported...who fixed it? I'd get it well checked out and IF O.K. I'd definately get a lower price since car was not in the condition it was stated. Good luck. :D

I'll definitely find out what happened exactly and how it was repaired. Is it really hard to find a Viper that hasn't had some sort of accident or paintwork?

You can try marv rose at http://www.dodgevipersforsale.com or buy from a VCA club member. You're odds will improve, but expect the price to go up a bit.

I found the car on the classifieds for this site lol.

60% + of all Gen 2 vipers have been in an accident.

I totaled one... I do mean TOTALED! and it is still out theredriving around with a clean title and a CLEAN car fax.

My advice..... YOU MUST HAVE ANY USED VIPER INSPECTED prior to purchasing it.

Hmmm, maybe i'll still buy it then if it wasn't too bad and if the paint is pristine. I'll definitely get an inspection.

60% + ??? Opinion or do you have any data?

If the car has been in an accident, it is not worth what a pristine car is worth. If the seller is a liar, I would run away from the deal.

That's a Dodge number. I can't say any more about it. If you don't want to believe it... no worries for me.

Accidents and Totals are different. Find out what happen to the car before you buy.

I have a list of over 40 VIN's (with pictures) of vipers that have been totaled and have been rebuilt with CLEAN titles and car faxes.

What do you mean that's a Dodge number? Has nothing to do with belief. Do you have a Dodge link that supports a 60%+ accident rate?

I'd either get a reduction in price or I'd boogie and not buy the car. There are too many other pristine cars out there (definitely more than 40%) and if your intentions are to keep this for a long time, this blemish will haunt (like an ex-wife).

So what you are saying is that 7176.6 of the 11961 (includes 1996 RT/10) Gen 2 Vipers have been in an accident? That's really hard to believe.

hey osu

there are too many vipers out there to except one that has been wrecked...so i would keep looking! if you ever go to sell that thing the accident will definitely lower your value later!...but if you decide to buy it, the owner now should lower the price...and if they aren't willing to lower the price significantly (several thousand $'s) i wouldn't buy it all together...if they are willing to lie about the accident...what else are they lying about????????

if they are telling you they didn't know the car had been in an accident...they are really lazy and didn't research the car before purchase, or they are just plain lying to you...either way it spells for a disaster of a purchase from that owner...imo

Well hell, i don't know what to do now. I was really looking forward to getting my Viper next weekend.

Anyone know of any Vipers for sale in great shape for under $55,000 and low miles?

I'm looking for:

97 Blue and White GTS
99 Black and Silver GTS or ACR
01 Sapphire Blue and Silver GTS or ACR

What do you mean that's a Dodge number? Has nothing to do with belief. Do you have a Dodge link that supports a 60%+ accident rate?

It's a fact. I have hundreds of verified VINs and about a thousand cars I haven't been able to match to a VIN. Those numbers comprise the ones that A) I could find, B) had a VIN listed with it, C) were released to the public as salvage, and D) were even reported as damaged. Mathmatically since about 50% of totaled vipers never reach the insurance company (racers and grossly affluent never get insurance companies involved in a claim) they cannot be totaled. With that estimate my numbers jump into a solid 3000 range and I've only been doing this since 2003 - ten years of tracking unaccounted for (mostly.)

7,000 totaled vipers... unlikely but possible. Not far off.

7,000 vipers in accidents? Easily. I'd bet honest money on that figure.

Bonkers, if you see any VINs in that list that you don't have on your list, let me know and I'll send you the pictures of the wrecks.
