I would like to hear from other NOS Vipers.

I was recently at Rt 66 Last month with the Viper Club. We started off running my cream puff without NOS, the first pass was a 11.8 e.t. then 11.6 all the way down to a 11.2 e.t and still no NOS. At that that point we were ready to use the spray. My Viper has the usual bolt on stuff, Belanger headers/ exhaust, smooth tubes, S & B filters, VEC1, polished heads, 150 shoot of NOS and slicks and skinny's.

First run was a test run to make sure the NOS was working right. Second run, I took off had a great run but missed fourth. Third run I was ready to to hit all four gears, when I broke through the finish it felt good hoping I would break into the 10's. When I picked up my time slip I had broke into the 10's for the second time of life, I had run a 10.42 e.t. with a 1.51 60 ft @ 134 m.p.h.. Next run was identical 10.42 e.t. with a 1.58 60 ft @ 134 m .p.h. It was great to run back to back 10.42 we knew we had the car tuned right.

We will be making more mods with our stock Viper to see if we can lower our e.t.. Wish us Luck.

Great numbers! What MPH did the car run without the 150 shot? I don't know if I would call head polishing a bolt on. :p

Hey Butch, good luck to you and your racing team. Kicking but on the track in the porsche challenge car, and even winning on the drag strip in the viper. YOU'RE THE MAN!

Nice numbers! Nitrous is an awesome beast that consistently yields great times. I've had it on my last 5 cars, and I'm wondering if I shouldn't do it again!

Great numbers with and without the bottle! Just goes to prove that a well sorted mild combo and good driver will beat a wild combo not as well sorted every time. Great stuff!

Whoa...11.2 with only those mods and no NOS??? what was your mph on the allmotor run? 121-123?Ive seen guys with those same mods not break into the 11's no doubt the slicks helped that et alot.........Id guess that with rolling stock you would be around 11.7.....Excellent run.

The NOS is great, but the tuning is the key.

There are many guy's running on the spray that don't have their cars tuned correctly.

If you have doubts come on over to Chicago, there were many Viper owners that were there when I run. I am very well known in the Chicago Viper community, most of on buddies own Vipers. I think the driver is probably one the most important factor.

There are plenty of Vipers out there that have more mods than I do that run slower e.t's. What can I say.

My first time out this year I just recently set a track record at Road America in my GT-3, since all the Porsche GT-3 cars are identical the driver is most definitly the difference.

If we run faster in the quarter mile I sure there will be guy's like YOU that will question my stock Viper motor.

There will always disbelievers.

Great going! Your numbers seem spot on. I've run 11.9 in my wife's stock '01 with slicks (117 trap speed), and back when I had heads + bolt-ons my '01 would trap 124.

My only question is, do you have rear gears on the car? If so, tell us your secret launching technique! 1.51 60' is really quick for a 3.07 car.

[******] nice Butch.

I am amazed an 01 with just headers/exhaust, VEC1, polished heads and slicks and skinny's, can run darn close to 10s in the quarter.

I did not realize that was possible. Now I feel REALLY REALLY slow. :)

Keep us updated on how it goes.

How are you tuning this thing? Do you just use the Vec1 and get the A/F ratio as close to perfect as you can? What more can you do? Inquiring minds want to know!

Butch forgot to mention that the 10.4's were run into a serious headwind. We're talking 25+ mph wind gusts. It wa a blast. We have some excellent videos of the runs. The car [******] near pulls a wheelie coming off the line. So what are the odds of the cream puff motor taking him into the 9's. Like everyone has said, its about the tuning and the driver. Thus far the driver has proven he can do his part and the tuner, well How many other cream puffs have gone 10.4, with more to come?

Thanks Ben

I've got the tickets to prove it.

I will try to post them.

Yes a stock gear first 60 ft 1.516 and the second one 1.589.

As Tooofst has challenged me in the past I told him I probably have a better feel for a car. All the driving schools I have been to Skip Barber, Dereck Daly these formula cars you are constantly shifting. You go figiure there are 14 turns in a road course and you usaully run for about 12-16 laps for a race or practice session. How many times am I up shifting per session? About 672 times give or take a 100 shifts. Mutiply that time 3 sessions per day at a full racing pace thats about 1500 up shifts. Combine that with down shifting thats about 3000 shifts in a day. I would think I anyone who practices this much would have an advantage at a drag strip where you up shift one time.

I am not saying I am a better driver but I think I have had more practice than most in a car. As far as the launch the facts are not a fluke, back to back 10.420 and 10.425 at Rt 66 dragstrip one of the best tracks around.

Again combination with the right mods is key, you know what I have. Very little compared to the rest of the Vipers on this board.

As far as what we are going to do I will keep you informed when we go faster.

Wow Butch you caught me off guard with that...I didnt question you I was giving you props......Maybe you read too much into what I was saying......I know what a well driven viper is capable of....Ive been on this board awhile. If a stock GTS can run consistant 11's with a good driver then why can a car with your mods do better. ...Its just that you dont see guys capable of rnnning 11.2's with those mods often hence the  nowhere did I call bs.........

I think Butch has a great point with the shifting. We talked about it once and all he has to think about he says is shifting to 4th, thats it, everything else comes naturally and thats the key. A combination of being very relaxed and trusting everything that you're doing and there is no end. We feel after the 10.4 that there is quite a bit more in the car. It still had some traction woes and and there room for some more tuning (and other goodies of course). hopefully a 10.0 or dare I say 9.9 is in the future. Good luck Butch, show us how its done.

Hello Snake

Sorry if I came across like that, there have been people telling us that my car would never run a 10.5 e.t. but who knows what the limits of my car can do with the right combintion of mods, weather and of course the tuner I beleive my Viper can go faster. Maybe I am wrong but we will find out.

I got NOS a while ago, and I'm not drag race guy, I've only got to use it for fun out on the highways and hope to use it on the long straights at Poconco.
But those number without the NOS sound great. I guess the polished heads make a very big difference. I have not heard of many guys into the mid 11's with headers and tubes.
I'm thinking I might have to head out to Englishtown and see what I can do.

Andrew I think the if you were to work your heads I would do the full job right, I should have installed larger valves with rocker arms and measured the flow volume of the heads.

I had the heads on my R/T worked on a little. He did a five angle valve job, cleaned up the bowls, milled them a little, etc. He told me it was good for 30hp, so I'm sure with head polishing you've got quite an advantage over stock. Great numbers though! I hope you crack the 9's! BTW, what is your launch tecnique? What rpm's? DO you dump it, or slip the clutch? I'd love to know! Those are great short times with stock gearing on a Viper!
