Hello,

There were several classes and I cannot remember who did what for sure in any class but unlimited. Here are the results from the Unlimited Class, trophies went to the 1st and 2nd place finishers in each catagory;

LOW E.T 1st Place-- Lee Saunders (BTR 750 1996 GTS) 9.89
LOW E.T 2nd Place-- Tom Welch (BTR 750 1997 GTS) 10.01

HIGH MPH 1st Place- Doug Levin (DLM RT/10 S/C with NOS) 147 MPH
HIGH MPH 2nd Place- Tom Welch (BTR 750 1997 GTS) 145 MPH

I wish that I could remember the times of the modified and stock Vipers as there were impressive times ran by many.....a few memory notes,

Chris N..aka Gandy King ran 11.02 on radials and was escorted from the premises for being way to fast without a roll bar....A HIGH HONOR I MIGHT AD!...I wish that I would have ran a bit quicker and got that same honor but couldn't get my old tires to hold up one last time!

Lakeland Rob with his SRT/10 ran 12.30

Ward ran several 10 second passes, John Canal ran 11's all day long on radials and Larry Macedo (my favorite pirate..he knows I love him!) got a first place trophy for driving one of his customer cars to a quickest in class time!

Thanks again to the Lashinsky's for hosting this event. I hope that others will chime in here with the rest of the top times and mph of each class of the event.

I will be posting times and names for class winners today. Stay tuned. We had a great turnout even with the threatening weather.
Thirty plus Vipers, 75 people and a whole day of drag racing at Gainesville Dragway, truly one of the best in the USA, all exclusively for the Viper Club in Central and North Florida. Thanks to Don Robertson, track VP and manager for the great help and wonderful track. The entire quarter mile was treated with VHT from start to finish. You could hear the tire grip for the entire quarter mile. Almost as good as "Super Glue!"

Mother nature was very kind to us..... NO RAIN.... even better overcast skies keep the Florida heat to a minimum. Hats off to the Lasinsky's for a FIRST CLASS drag day at a first class track.

Cudaman :usa:

Tom did some great driving to keep his car above 9 sec (Ran a 10.01), so he would not get kicked off track.

Rob ran his STOCK SRT/10 ran 12.30 with his 70+(?) year old mom watching

All the major tuners were present at the track answering any and all the performance questions any one could come up with. Larry Macedo of Macedo Motorsports, Sean Roe of Roe Racing, Doug Levin of Doug Levin Motorsports, Tom Welch of BTR of performance were all present.

All the tuners had many of their customers cars there racing as well as every tuner made runs down the track.

My hats off to each any every tuner for take time off their busy schedules and away from their families to come out to a PUBLIC track and race each other and help their customers and other tuners customers as well.

WAY TO GO FLORIDA TUNERS.....

YOUR CUSTOMERS THANK YOU

Final Results for yesterday's, Saturday Oct. 11 Viper Club Drag Racing at Gainesville Dragway:

Low ET: Lee Saunders 9.894

High MPH: Doug Levin 147.17 MPH

Unlimited:
#1- Lee Saunders 9.894
#2- Tom Welch 10.01

Modified:
#1- Vern Hill 11.975
#2- Steve Salis 12.079

SRT 10:
#1- Rob Kincart 12.383
#2- Mark Austin 12.743

Gen. II:
#1- Gary Soltys 11.841
#2- Paul Arnold 12.545

Gen. I:
#1- Keith Crocker 12.594
#2- Lance Malcom 12.914

The different Class wins were determined by lowest ET for the day by each driver and Viper. The track was prepped with VHT the entire quarter mile in both lanes. Gary Soltys in a stock GTS on street tires ran a quick 11.841 @ 120.43. Not bad for a stock GTS.
We had lots of low 12 second runs with some very fast modified and Unlimited Vipers.

This will be an annual event and dates will be set for next year at Gainesville this coming week. For those who missed it. . .see you in 2004!

Congrats to Lee Saunders again for winning overall.
Congrats to Gary Soltys 11.84 stock GenII very good. Was Gary's car a GTS? How did they determine who won in classes if one ran on slicks the others ran street or Pilot tires? Or could you run any tire in any class? How strict were they on the rules? Would a 11.5 with no roll bar end your day? Sound like a good event wish I made it. I will be at Bradenton Thursday night the 16th to make up for it. Cool weather and no rain so far is prediction.

I smell a "fix"...there is NO WAY that Lance Malcolm dude earned a trophy.

That or there were just two stock Gen I cars there.

dwhitt,I have a 5psi Roe s/c on my car. It was installed the day before the races. My best times are barely better than your basically stock 12.3. I hope tuning will fix it.

Can anyone tell me why my car was slow Saturday? My times were beating by cars w/exhaust and roller rockers. Bone stock cars were nipping at my heals. I was so upset at tech check in because I was previously told over the phone by track personnel that if I ran 11's I didn't need anything else. I had a feeling that was wrong from my mustang days but I didn't argue. Anyway I fully expected to easily run 11's on street tires. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. So I got upset about the roll bar requirement for no reason.

Cudaman advised me to yank the high flow cat's off. Anybody else got any other ideas for me. My best e.t. was 12.19 and best mph was only 120. Ran consistent 12.2 @ 118mph. I know what you are thinking "maybe it's the driver". I started doubting myself so I let Kenny (a proven mustang/viper drag racer) also drive my car since he got kicked off on his first N.O.S. run. He had already shaved .5 a sec off another 2002 car down there by driving it. Anyway he could only muster a 12.2 like me but he did get my 120mph after several attempts. My best was 119mph.

My mod's are listed below.

What a great event thanks to Gary and Libby Lashinsky! I will tell everyone straight away, Gary S is a better driver than I and Vern's car would have been low 11's with him piloting the car. Vern had to leave so Gary never got a chance drive his car or the times for Mod would have been much faster. Chris N always provides good entertainment at the track and on the street. Gary S has bolt-ons and ran 11.8 on BFG's, congrats to Gary! It's always good to see a car I wrenched on kicking butt! John C ran well and he and Sean were playing with different S/C cards all day. Ward R had a few problems with a cruise control bracket hanging his accelerator which we quickly tossed in the trash can. Rob's SRT was running well and I believe he ran 12.20's pretty much all day. BTR Tom and Lee S always put on a good show with their 9 second cars and continue to clean house at every event. Doug from DLM put on a good show as well giving us the fastest MPH in an RT/10 no doubt. For those of you that missed the good time we had, be sure to come out next year. I've been in the rack since returning last night due to my back and will recoup for the onslaught tomorrow.

Larry your saying Gary S. had bolt ons and won the mod class then, not the pure stock class on street tires like Gary L. reported above.

I do know after eating lunch with Antonio he has a 1993 RT/10 with a STOCK GenII engine installed. His only mods are hiflow cats, cat back, smooth tubes and filters. He ran a 12.3 at 120mph!

This is worth mentioning as he beat Chuck (with 2 vipers) every time he raced him heads up.

1BADSNK,

I basically have the same set-up as yours. My car was a bit off on Saturday as well. I generally run up to 128 mph for my trap speed, Saturday my best was 125 mph at 11.32. I was trying a lot of different cards with Sean Roe, so it was a bit of a test day. I might have done better sticking with one card and working on my driving, but it was a great opportunity to try some different fuel curves and timing changes. I have found what works on the dyno does not work as well on track. You will need to go to a track with someone that can tune your car between runs. Larry Macedo has gone with me many times, and my best runs have been made with him tweaking the the car between runs. If you send me your contact info I will call you next time we go out as a group. Good luck.

What were Cudaman's times?

Had a series of bad luck. It started off the morning we (my 2 sons and I)headed off to Gainesville. I lost a good friend.... my dog...Alaska.I had to keep the passing away of Alaska (killed by a car on SR 70) from my 2 sons...because I did not want to ruin the weekend for my boys..... so I buried her in our backyard.

10Alaska.jpg

Got to track got ready to make first pass, during burn out throttle felt strange... kind of sticky. Did a so-so first pass @ 10.801.

Started prep of second pass during burn out throttle stuck wide open..... turned key off at wide open throttle..... did not make the pass.

Removed cruise control cable and made third attempt at a pass.... Tom Welch and lined up to run each other..... did burn out...again wide open throttle had to shut key off in middle of burn out..... *** was going on?????

We discovered that bracket for cruise control made a hole in hood liner and was jamming bracket and sticking into hood...resulting in wide open throttle.

Fourth attempt ...burn out went so-so and ran a 10.74.

Fifth attempt good burn out ... good launch ... running a strong run ...shifted into 4th... and something went on ....not sure... motor turned off... it was a good run 1/8 mph was 2-3 mph faster than 10.74 run...Car ran fine after run.

At that point ....Luck was not running my way....sooooo I called her quits.

Saw a black cat run in between me and Fuelman and Tfast4u on way to track....that must have been the problem....Next time will be my fast runs.

Even though things were not going my way ..... I was amoungest freinds and I had a good time.

Most of us were under the impression this was just a test and tune. It wasn't until we all arrived at the track that we found out there were trophies and things of that nature. The Tech was very strict, anyone faster than 11.99 had to have a bar and anyone faster than 135 had to have a full cage. Needless to say, more than a few had to restrain themselves whereas others didn't care and ran as fast as they could. It just goes to show you can break the rules and still win. Go fugure! The class Matrix was setup like this: Bolt-ons put you in Stock, internal mods put you in Modified and S/C, Turbocharging and N20 put you in Unlimited. Additionally there was a class designation for Gen1 and Gen2 cars. Thanks again to Gary and Libby for such a great day of drag racing!

IBADSNK,

Please send me your home mailing address and I'll send you a card to try, Sir. The cards provided are a good baseline, although much can be improved by tuning on the dyno, etc.

DAWG,

It's always a pleasure to lose to your own customer...if one can consider losing pleasurable. I am very happy for Lee and Joe as they have been top DAWGS at the last several events that they have attended and their BTR 750 continues to perform flawlessly and maintenance free. They never brag or post on the forums and are still not well known...which I feel is to their advantage at some of these Viper events.

In actuality, Lee's car and my own are identical in design and performance and usually run within a few hundredths of each other. Tire condition made the difference yesterday (mine poor from age and wear)or both of us would have been shown to the exit..LOL

Maybe Ward was on to something with the black cat carma.....my car number was 13.!!LOL

Mike (1BADSNK),
Stop by the shop and lets check for full throttle. We can also make a 0 or 2 degree timing retard program for use with 100 octane the next time you do a track event. I would not expect your best times with street fuel and the gas pedal bottom hitting the floor (which helps explain how you were equal to maybe being pulled slightly by Keith's stock Gen1 when your GTS was stock). We can also hit the dyno for power / tuning confirmation.

Tony,
Doug's ET on the 147 MPH run was 10.5. The car sounded good. I believe traction was an issue.

Tom,
Thanks for letting me put some stuff from my car in your trailer. Next time charge me storage and apply it to a new set of tires ;)

It was a good event. Surprising that it didn't rain. I think everybody got their fill of runs.

Regards,
Sean
