Hi Everyone:

If you are interested in learning to drive your Vipers on the track, Tracquest will be holding their Buttonwillow event in August. They run a first class operation with very good instructors (in fact the owner Todd Serota has instructed at Viper Days events), that provide us a safe environment to learn in.

Our brethren at the Corvette Forum are making it an official SoCal event. Come on out and have some fun playing with Corvettes and Porsches.

See you all out there!

Brad

Here are some details on the event:

Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Buttonwillow, CA
Saturday - Sunday, August 18th - 19th, 2001

TracQuest is holding its next Driver Education event in Southern California on Saturday and Sunday, August 18th and 19th, 2001 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, 130 miles north of Los Angeles, just past Bakersfield. It's about a 2 hour drive from the L.A. area, and about a 3 hour drive from the San Francisco Bay area. Buttonwillow is a great, challenging track constructed, owned and operated by the SCCA. A track map can be viewed on Buttonwillow's web site at www.buttonwillowraceway.com.

Unlike most Car Club events, which are competitive and require 5?point harnesses, fire extinguishers and often roll bars, this is a non?competitive event, so you don't need any special equipment for your car (including convertibles, which may also run without a roll bar) - just a helmet, which you should try to obtain for yourself because rentals will not be available (a few loaners will be available, but there aren't many). Instruction is provided by experienced Club and SCCA racers/instructors. The schedule for Saturday is as follows:

7:00 a.m. - Arrive and register ? coffee and danish provided
8:00 a.m. ? Drivers meeting (mandatory for everyone)
8:30 a.m. - Instructor (Red) group first session during last half of drivers meeting
9:00 a.m. ? "Ducks in a Row" ? Instructors drive cars of students new to Buttonwillow
at slow speed on the correct line in groups of two, with other car in group
following. Instructor takes a turn driving each car.
9:30 a.m. - Alternate slow, medium and fast group ½ hour open track sessions, with
- 5:30 p.m. strict rules re passing in slow group, less strict in medium group, open passing
in instructor/fast group. Lunch is provided, along with drinks all day.
7:00 p.m. - Banquet (included in entry fee) on Saturday, August 18th.

On Sunday, there will be even more track time. Open lapping will begin at 8:00 a.m., since everyone will already be familiar with the track and operational procedures.

In addition to driving in your own sessions, both with and without instructors, you can ride with the instructors in our cars at speed, which is both very instructive, and, quite frankly, a blast! All kinds of cars come to these events, including Porsches, Ferraris, Audis, Vipers, NSX's, BMW's, RX?7's, Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, Mercedes, Jaguars and others. Professional corner workers and course control personnel will help to assure a safe and fun event for everyone.

If you are an experienced driver, you can take advantage of over 5 hours of high quality, low traffic track time, more than double what you would likely get in an entire time trial or race weekend.

Event headquarters will be the Super 8 Motel, 20681 Tracy Road, Buttonwillow, CA 93206, (661) 764-5117, 10 miles south of Lerdo Highway (where the track is), at the junction of Highway 58 and the 5 Freeway. When you call for reservations, make sure you say you're with the TracQuest event. The room rate will be $34.99 per night plus tax for a single or $43.99 per night plus tax for a double.

The discounted early entry fee for this 2-day event is $525 all?inclusive if your entry form is postmarked by July 18th, 2001, slightly more if later. To register, fill out the entry form that was emailed to you with this write-up and follow the directions included on it. Please note that TracQuest now takes credit cards (Visa and Mastercard only, at the moment), and shortly you'll be able to register completely on the TracQuest web site.
