Viper ran [email protected] with a 1.68 60\' Today

Track rental today at ATCO.

2001 Viper GTS - tubes, filters, and Kumhos.

The Viper clicked off three 11.8s and one 11.9 launching at 2000rpms and cutting 1.8 60's.

Last pass I launched at 3500 and cut a 1.68 60' on the way to a [email protected] GRANNYSHIFTING

This car is AMAZING!!!

My 92 Stang ran [email protected] with a 1.81 60' on BFG DRs on its second pass (it blew a headgasket)

First pass it cut a 1.66 60', but the car was not warmed up enough and it only ran 11.6@123+. If we would have got the 1.66 60' on the 11.27 pass, we would have had a 10.97 on radials!!!

NEXT TIME!!!

Everything on this car is stock except for the filters, tubes, and Kumhos.

I never launch it very hard, even the 3500 was high for me, but I know they will break if I push it much harder.

ATCO's track prep was AMAZING.

It was so sticky, great for racing.

They kept the left lane dry for guys with radials and the right lane wet for the guys with slicks.

I'd love to go, but my wife will kill me if I go again that soon.

Maybe I'll go just to hang out if I can get off work.

Ahhh, who am I kidding, I'd have to run if I was there.

YELL03,

Nice runs.

I say with practice you can get an 11.30-.40 @123 or so. The traction is helping you out alot from the tires, hell maybe even faster.

Amazing what a stock viper can do in the right hands, isnt it?

PS. Yes, yes I know it isnt exactly stock. But far as I am concerened Vipers should have come with those tires from the factory.

Thanks

Those tires make the car so much safer to drive with.

Unfortunately they wear out VERY fast.

As far as a good driver, I'm OK, but ATCOs track prep is the best.

God, if I could only powershift I would run 11.5s easy.

can you provide more info on the Kumhos, like size and pressure used? Did you have stock Michelins on the front? What rims did you use in the rear.

I'm kinda interested in a setup to maximize my mods but was afraid the added grip would take its toll on the halfshafts.

I've been informally shopping for another set of '01 wheels to put tires on for roadracing and drag racing, saving my original ones from getting mucked up.

No problem:

I have stock Michelins in front, I have noticed no adverse handling on the street.

The rear Kumhos are 335/30/18 (same as stock).

I set them at 26# of pressure COLD at home.

When I got to the track they read 28# HOT, so I lowered them to 27# HOT and went for it.

I figure for the track 25-26# is best COLD and for the street you can leave them there or up them to 28-30#.

I had my Michelin fronts at 36#.

Man I just watched that video_One thing I have to say that there are not to many people Yell that drive like you. Just by watching the video you were right on with the launch.Just curious once you launched her at 2000 rpm, the wheels didn't break at all. Did you do any burn out prior to the launch? Seems like the car just took off with no wheel spin at all.Usually when the Viper launches theres always that slight wheel spin or wheel hop from tires being cold.Vey nice video...

BACKNBLACK -

Thanks.

I gotta let my son read that.

The track was very sticky as are the Kumhos.

I did a small burnout just to clean the tires described below:
I just tach it up to like 3500, let off the clutch and nail it up to the line. It spins for about 10-15 feet and all is good.

Launch technique -

I don't like to ride the clutch so I

tach it up to my desired rpm whether it be 2000 (almost always) or 3500 for a hard launch, this usually requires about a small amount of pedal. When the ligt goes 3rd yellow I let off the clutch and keep the gas pedal where it is, as soon as I feel the tires grip I nail it.

I am not very talented, I can't do a burnout by jumping off the clutch and on to the brakes, I can't modulate and ride the clutch out on launch, and I can't powershift (I always lift throttle shift).

I do what I am comfortable with and what I would do in real world situations and what any average driver can do.

Just know, if you run me at a light I will run 11.8 with a 1.8 60' everytime.

I can't wait to post the 11.67 video with the 1.68 60', that will look a little less smooth.

I don't think I would do much better, I can't do a proper burnout to heat them up, but put in a driver like Evan Smith from MM&FF Magazine, I'll bet he could pull off easy low 11s on slicks and 11.3-11.4 on DRs.

I don't think Creampuffs basically STOCK are as weak as people think compared to basically Stock non-creampuffs.

I have to admit I was a little worried about having a 2006 Z06 encounter or a AMG55 Benz, but the Viper with Kumhos is just too easy to launch and go flat out.

On a roll there is not much to fear with a Viper.

I have stuck with high 10 low 11 second Stangs and 03 Cobras from a roll.

In fact I did pretty well against my 92 Stang on the way to ATCO. My buddy was driving the 92

Re: Viper ran [email protected] with a 1.68 60\' Today

I run them everyday on the rears.

I can see them being bad in the rain once they wear down.

I've had them about 1-2 months and they are already down to 4/32.

They also pick up alot of sand and gravel.

If you put them up front you would throw gravel all over the side of your car.

Right now it just kicks it up in to the rear wheel wells.

I can't imagine having a Viper without them on the rears.

My times went down from 12.31 to 11.67 and my 1/8 went from a 8.0 to a 7.5 with the same mph.

For $241 a tire, that is the best Bang for the Buck in performance you can get.

Creampuffs and non are both capable of about the same performance when stock or close to it. The behefit of 5 rwhp is not going to aid in an already severly traction limited car.

I bet with slicks low 11's are possible. However it is much more impresive to run 11.60's on street tires.

I hear the non-creampuffs run better after mods than creampuffs.

But, like you said stock vs stock is about the same.

I have to tell you:

Kumhos are far from an average street tire:

They dropped my 60' from 1.89 to 1.68
my 1/8 from 8.0 to 7.5 at the same mph
and my 1/4 from 12.31 to 11.67 with only a 1.5-2mph increase in trap speed.

Theres definitely some tenths in good rubber. I wish I could consistently get into the 1.8s in my car. My runs have all been on MXX3s with 800# rear springs. At least I can MPH well on the top end - I'm always over 120.

My ride only makes 413/450 on a warm engine.

GTS Dean -

I'll bet with a 123mph trap speed, if you put Kumhos on there you would run 11.4s-11.5s easy.

Do it, it'll make you happy. :)

I ran 5 runs launching at 2000rpms, all were 1.8 60's and three were 11.8s and 2 were 11.9s all at 120mph.

It was that last run where I launched at 3500 and cranked off the 11.67.

Get some Kumhos,

Howard
