What \"kind\" of car is a Viper?

in a discussion in another car forum, someone mentioned that there are no musclcars anymore. i chimed in and said that i have a 488ci V-10 in my garage that says otherwise. someone brought up that a Viper is an "exotic supercar" and someone else said it's a "sports car."

what is it?

Actually, it is the reincarnation of the 427 AC Cobra which was a sort of "muscle" sports car.

This also means it is related to Carol Shelby and .... Ford.

that's funny because i said that i liken the Viper to a 427 Cobra - no gimmicks - just power.

This one has gone around on other sites with other cars before. The general consensus is that a "muscle car" by definition must be able to seat 4, whether it has 2 doors or more.

The Viper scores as a sports car, but it has a lot more balls than what we usually call a sports car.

The Viper is a Street Legal Race Car!

90's version of a 427 Cobra made by Dodge!

Re: What \"kind\" of car is a Viper?

Ohhh, good question.

The Viper kinda falls in a class of its own (like the Cobra and AMC Javelin back in the 60s.) I guess one would have to clarify the Definition of Muscle Car.

Muscle Cars as I understand them were cheap, four or five passenger heavy cars designed to run the 1/4. Huge Torque, huge motor, sleeper looks. Muscle cars were more about cruising then actual performance so I don't think Vipers qualify.

Pony Cars were all 2+2s so the Snake definately falls short there.

Sports Cars have an air of power and reek finese. Vettes and Porsches enter here. My Impala can play with a stock C5 all day, but dies a quick death on the curvy trails.

I say Sport Muscle. Best of both worlds...

Insurance companies consider it an exotic.

KBB/Edmunds considers it an exotic.

I consider it a street legal race car, with an exotic disguise.

Bonkers,
What did you do to your Impala to make it fast enough to run with my 96 C4, let alone a C5?
I always liked those Impalas but I thought they had an iron head LT1 with about 250hp or so.

Sports car:Two seat open top like an RT-10 or SRT.GT:2 seater hard top sports car as in Viper GTS.Yes I know it might have three seats as in a mclaren but no rear seats.Sedan:front and rear seats like an impala or buick.Muscle car is a sedan with some more horse power.Like a buick GTS or a mustang. Technically, it's a sports car as it only sets two. Much like the '96 and earlier RTs and technically "roadsters" due to having no roll-up windows, making the later RTs convertibles.
