I'm looking to purchase a clean, no history GTS with less than 20K miles, no major mods for under $40k. Is this realistic? Anyone have any leads?

Thanks

For some reason, the classifieds aren't working for me. It keeps stating that no ads are found....

I’m open to all years as I plan on using the car for weekends/road trips. So forged internals or abs aren’t really a concern.

Thanks

You have a very realistic budget but you still may have to travel or wait for the right color. I wish I had more garage space or I'd get a second Gen II.

More than realistic. You can get a very nice GTS for mid 30's.

Good luck with your search.

Mike, are you clicking on the link at the top of this page? I have tried the ads from several different computers and browsers and am not having a problem. What browser are you using, and any custom security settings applied?

Since you wrote that you plan to drive the car I'll make advisory comments on your request for no mods ...

Mod #1
If you want to drive the car with no mods then buy a Gen3. Better car and nearly the same price. HOWEVER, if you like the Gen 2 GTS classical looks, then the brakes can be upgraded to Gen 3s or even just by adding the lightweight drilled slotted rotors and increasing the rear brake pressure (recommend Tom's rear brake caliper upgrade on all Vipers up to '01) will make the brake performance about the same as the very best in the world.

Mod #2
The factory Alpine system is good, but the speakers really are junk - upgade!

Mod#3
PS1s are obsolete. Runcraps are obsolete. Make sure the car has PS2s for superior performance.

Mod #4
The Factory exhuast is a Government requirement that comes on every Viper. Although the Gen 2s have rear exit, the stock Cats ruin the sound of the V10 and compromise comfort by overheating the side sills etc. A Corsa (or several other engineered brands) will make the Gen 2s the best sounding Viper of all (because of the length of the exhuast tubing.

All other mods are up to the owner. The above mods are needed to improve the performance, sound, image and safety to the point that the Gen 2 is much better than a vette and equal or better than the newer improved versions.

Stock and unmodified means that there are several better cars on the road nowadays. With a few tasteful upgrades like the ones mentioned above the Gen 2 Viper can easily be the Ultimate supercar. At least that's the way I see it.

Ted

kcobean, you're right, its a browser issue. It will not open in Firefox, but it will in internet explorer. Go figure.

You should check your Firefox settings. I am in and out of the classifieds all day long using Firefox and have not had any problems. If you have upgraded Firefox recently, I noticed that there were some security default settings and a few other parameters that were changed without notice that did weird things with logins. I hate it when they do that!

Agree that there are some great buys out there on Gen II's right now. A friend & fellow VCA member is offering his 1997 GTS for sale in the low-mid 30's. The car is original, has 15,000 EASY miles...no issues, stories, etc. Wish that I had some room!!! :)

I would go with 2001/2002 for the ABS since I don't think you will be modding it. $40K is realistic and you can probably find one for $35k / $36k w/ 15k or less miles. Just have to be patient.

Make sure to do a pre-purchase inspection if you are not familiar with Vipers.
