I just put a couple of clear rubber bumpers (about 3/8" high) on the bottom of my V1 and wedge it between the dash and the windshield with the suction cups ... lay the cord down on the dash, and down around the center, down to the lighter plug ... it looks fine, uncluttered, and works great (less visible to cops that way too) ... no mirror mount needed.

Grunt-I rewired and it is evident that I got it hooked to the pin for the battery saver. According to the factory manual with the battery saver it takes 15 min to go off. That is exactly the time it took for mine to go off. Going to do some checking on the pins with my volt meter and see what I come up with.

JohnK do you remember what pins you went to with the invisicord.

I think I wired the way you did John.

But, I guess after I think about it is that I don't wait for 15 min to check and see if it went out.
And, when you open the door the cabin lights come on and so the radar detector should as well. I just thought of that. So, mine could be turning off and I just don't know it. Only seeing the detecor on when I get back in the car and hoping the battery isn't dead cause I forgot turn off the dumb thing.

Have these mounts been used on a Gen II? The website states that they are known to fit Gen III, but, I think my mirror stalk is too large. Any help out there?

Thanks.

According to the site, the diameter of the mirror mount has to be at least 3/4 in. So I took a string and wrapped it around the mount to give me the circumference which turned out to be 2 6/16 in. Using the circumference formula and dividing by pi gives the diameter which turns out to be .76 in.

So it should work. I'm going to order one today and see if it really does. I've already got the V-1 wired into my Gen II and I'm using a strip of metel velcroed to the mirror and the V-1.

Just looking for a cleaner installation. I'll let you know what I find out later next week.

Well I received the mount yesterday and it installed in my 2001 Sapphire GTS without a hitch. The previously posted pictures of an SRT-10 installation capture what the setup looks like.

I have those mounts for my Expedition and Viper, move the V1 from car to car. Easiest way to tap into the factory mirror wiring is below. Interesting timing, I actually wired both cars today. Very clean installation and done in 5 minutes.

Invisicord - Installation

RT10 or GTS? I just got my invisicord the other day and want to wire it up, not sure where to tap into the wires for my '00 RT10 mirror.

When I installed the mount on my 04 SRT the lever to switch the mirror from night driving to day driving hits the detector and prevents the mirror from switching. Did any of you have the same problem. I will have to take a look at it and see if I can adjust it.

No problem on mine. It's a tight squeeze for the fingers to get too between the detector and the mirror. I honestly have never used that thing.

Hey I just found this.....

Would this be a better idea instead of having the Radar hard wired through my ****** Direct Wire SmartCord or through the use of an invisicord to my 96 GTS??? Auto Cigarette Lighter Dual Outlet 12 Volt Power Plug Adapter Socket

I actually found it on amazon for cheaper...
Amazon.com: Auto Cigarette Lighter Dual Outlet 12 Volt Power Plug Adapter Socket: Electronics

Would the Cigarette Lighter Outlet not give the radar enough power it needs all the time compared to hard wiring it?

I just figured this way would be easier and I can charge my phone and have the radar plugged in at the same time without buying the invisicord. I'll most likely buy the Rear View Mirror Mount though! The Radar Mount for the ****** or Beltronics :)

If you used the invisicord I heard the actual radar doesn't turn off right away when the ignition is turned off. Could this drain the battery in your car from the radar not turning off right away once the car is turned off?

Also if I did buy the invisicord is it better to get a length of 8" or 12" ???

you just now discovered a dual outlet converter???!! they have been for sale at autozone and the like for years. :lmao:

would it a better idea? of course not. but maybe you like wires everywhere? most people don't, that was the whole point of the mirror mount. Your other questions were answered previously in the thread if you go back and READ the responses.

FYI DavesBigBrakes has got the mount plus an oversized mirror setup which seems to work really well.
Great to deal with too!!

If I have a new Valentine 1 and want to use a rear-view mirror mount power tap in, can I use the cords that come with the V-1 or do I need the invisicord?

If I need the invisicord, then exactly which product should I order?

My car is a 2008 SRT-10 Coupe.

Thanks very much for your thoughts!

I just added the invisicord and the Country Joy mount for my Valentine 1 in my new 2008 Viper. Great mount and thanks so much for the tips!

One question:

My V1 unit does not seem to be very tight in the V1 slide mount (some play). It is a brand new unit and not defective. This is the slide mount that usually has suction cups in it.

The V1 slide mount is snug and secure to the Country Joy piece and the Country Joy piece is snug to the mirror stalk, so these connections are fine.

Has anyone done anything to snug up the grip the V1 slide mount has on the V1 unit?

Thanks!

If you want to mount your RD *above* your rear view mirror to get it out of your normal field of vision and improve radar reception:

Invisicord is awesome. I'm not a fan of these mounts for the rear view mirror stem though. It puts your radar detector in clear view so it becomes a great target for thieves. The detector also blocks your field of view a bit. I think the best placement is permanent mount near the visor. This is what I did for my last Vette ... permanent mount that uses the visor stem screw. You can still use the visor too. Put it on the passenger side of the cockpit too if you like.

Holy thread bumping Batman.

Those mirror side mounts were great 5 yrs ago. "Radar mirror" ins't cheap, but nothing is cleaner or better looking than an integrated system:

I just finished perusing the 'radar mirror' site. A viper would lose the laser detection of the Valentine1 when the main V1 unit is concealed. I noticed that yours isn't installed in a viper.
