    Sounds like hokum to me. The gas laws still apply. When volume is constant, pressure varies directly with temperature and it doesn't make any difference what the gas is.

    My 2001 leaked at the hose-to-compressor seals. New "O" rings solved the problem. Also replaced expansion valve and filter-dryer.

    If your AC isn't working well, it probably needs service. Mine is more than cold enough with new expansion valve, filter-dryer, o-rings and recharge.
