The Georgia Department of Transportation is proud to sponsor an

"Interstate 50th Anniversary Vintage Car Ride" in celebration of the

50th Anniversary of the Interstates. That's right! This year, the

nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Dwight D. Eisenhower

System of Interstate and Defense Highways. It has been called the

greatest engineering feat in modern times, and the best investment our

nation ever made. Many observers have ranked the Interstates' effect on

Americans' lives as equal to that of the automobile.

Georgia DOT will lead the state's celebration of the Interstates with a

series of events designed to raise awareness about our Interstates,

including a Vintage Ride. The Ride is scheduled for Sunday

June 25.

Our "Ride" will have a POLICE ****** and we will be cruising some

interstate(s) in the Atlanta Metro area (we won't go faster than a

leisurely 55mph). We would like to have 50 cars for 50 years, that is,

ten from each decade from the 50s to the 00s. VIPER CLUB - Bring all you want.

On hand will be Georgia's Transportation Commissioner, Harold Linnenkohl, state

transportation board members and other elected officials, AND PRESS. Our aim is

to raise awareness about the Interstate system, its cultural and

logistical effects on our lives and educate people about the need to

preserve and improve this critical national infrastructure for future generations.

Regarding our Interstate 50th Anniversary I-Ride Vintage Car Ride;

we are asking folks to arrive with their vintage cars at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of Pappasitos/Pappdeux's at Windy Hill and I-75 (from southbound, it would be on the left, and from Northbound, it would be on the right side). We will have our send off at 10:15 AM, then we'll cruise down I-75 to the Varsity, Downtown (exit at North Ave). We will have light refreshments at Windy Hill, but please be advised we will not have access to restrooms at the Windy Hill location. But, The Varsity will be open for business when we arrive. The Commissioner will give a brief press conference at 11:00AM at the Varsity.

As soon as you know, I would like to know how many cars the Viper club will have participating so that I can better plan to have eveyone accomodated.
