    Theft History and Resale Value

Invoice #5316, and, yea, they took the nose emblem. Probably hanging on a gold chain around some banger's neck. :D

    Theft History and Resale Value

'97 GTS with 20K miles, red, good condition. Jon, you sold me the replacement parts....radio, jack, spare tire, floor mats. Dealer fully inspected the car after recovery and found no damage. I asked the same question, why strip it and abandon it but that's what happened. Been driving it for...

    Thread size on shifter

12MM x 1.25 is very close to 1/2"-20, close enough that components will thread together but be loose.

    Theft History and Resale Value

If you were contemplating a Viper purchase and the car has a history of theft, partial strip and recovery how would it affect your decision? If the missing parts ($1000 worth) were replaced and there was no structural damage would you shy away from the car completely or just use the theft...

    Aggravating Slow Leak

My wheels are the factory '97 GTS with Michelin Pilots, both front tires were replaced under a damage claim and I don't know who the insurance company had do them or I'd take it back for them to fix. I'm aware of the black goo but I'd like to avoid it because, well.....it's gooey.

    Aggravating Slow Leak

I've got a slow leak in one tire only but what's weird is that the leakage rate varies with the tire position. With the valve stem clocked in one particular range of arc it might leak one psi every two days but with the valve stem clocked in a different range it might take a week to leak one...

    Help Recharging theAir Conditioning System

I am by no means an A/C expert but I have found that R134 systems are much more sensitive to correct quantity than R12 systems, if the quantity is lower or higher than than the system calls for it won't be optimum. That's why it's a good idea to completely evaquate the system and recharge with...

    Which exhaust sounds like this...?

My Random Tech/Corsa combo does it big time, I think of it as a cop magnet and haul in the clutch most of the time.

Help ID'ing make on my old cat-back system - pic

I think the point they're trying to make is that it isn't a "system", it's just a home-brewed setup with some fancy tips from a lowrider catalog.

Won't pass calif. smog, now what???

My '97 GTS is configured exactly like the OP and it passes everytime, I compared the Smog Check numbers before and after installing the cats and Corsa and the only difference was a significant rise in the NO reading, but still within limits.

What are all these transmission oils ?! (ATF+4)

ATF+4 is the synthetic, ATF+3 isn't. Both of these are formulated with friction modifiers for automatics with lockup converters, the friction modifiers might interfere with synchro operation in a manual trans. :dunno: Dexron III is just the third generation of Dexron fluid that's been around...

    Cleaning the Undercarraige?

If all the undercarriage has is loose oily film, get some cheap waterless hand cleaner and apply it to the belly with a paint brush; let set a while and hose it off.

    Skip Shift - question

The resistor is a 1/4 watt 2.2K ohm; available from Radio Shack (271-1325) for about a dime.

Where is the fuel pump relay, and, how do you test it?

If you do hear the fuel pump run for one second after turning the key, the hard starting after sitting might be caused by a faulty check valve in the pump module not holding pressure. Try "the twist trick", turn the key on until the pump times out, turn the key off and on again....repeat...

    Mopar pistol grip

Here's a PG handle I whittled out to use original '70 parts, I got the angle wrong and it didn't feel right in the Viper so I used it in a different car. Gives the general idea.

    Snapping Sound When Door Opened/Closed

While I was out running some chores in my '97 GTS I suddenly got a snapping sound when opening the driver's door; same sound when closing the door with a pronounced difficulty in swinging the door when the "snap region" is approached. I couldn't do anything while on the road so I took a look...

Fuel Pressure Fix without buying whole module

The info I posted is from the factory parts book, it shows the regulator as part of the module only and '97 and later doesn't even show that P/N. In any case, Tom's Primer Timer is a lot easier than getting to the module.

Fuel Pressure Fix without buying whole module

The 4746407 was only used from '92-'95, starting in '96 the check valve isn't in a separate component it's in the fuel pump module.

Calif. Smog check problem, need help

My '97 has Random Tech 3" cats and I just went through Smog Check a couple of weeks ago, the CO readings on the 15 mph and 25 mph checks were 0.00 and 0.01 repectively. It's my understanding that high CO is caused by a too rich mixture or high oil consumption.

If your car takes forever to start due to fuel pump issues...

Got one on my '97 GTS and it works as advertised. Took care of the "extended cranking after a hot soak" problem, just turn on the key and let the timer time out before engaging the starter. Easier and cheaper than replacing a fuel pump module.
