While driving my 96' RT/10 in this lovely Georgia heat (over 100 degrees lately), my temp gauge is a tad bit past the 3rd notch on the gauge. I called the Dodge dealership here to see if they made a factory 180 degree thermostat. The parts guy told me replacing the t-stat w/a cooler one would really hurt gas mileage (5mpg+) b/c the car would be running cooler and the computer would try to compensate by keeping some sensor open causing gas mileage to drop. Does this sound right? If not, who makes a good 180 degree thermostat for Vipers?

I hope you were wearing your boots when he told you that!
The 180deg thermostat from MOPAR Performance is WAY to much money!! You can get the same thermostat from NAPA #613080, one third of the cost! I have it in my Viper and it works great. It will keep it cooler going down the road but in stop & go traffic it will get just as hot.
