Texas dentist Dr. Deborah Loth made it a “Weekend of Firsts” this past weekend as she won the first T1 race of 2002 in the SCCA’s Midwest Division at Hallett Motor Speedway on Sunday, April 14th. Dr. Loth, who earned her National license near the end of last year after winning several Regional T1 races, drove her yellow No. 23 Bobby Archer Motorsports / ViperSpeed Viper to a new track record of 1:25.5, breaking the previous T1 record of 1:26.3 set by her mentor, Bobby Archer, in 2001. Speaking of 2001, it was at the Hallett track last year that Deborah set her first track record (only to be broken a day later by Archer) and won her first Regional race.

Dr. Loth started her weekend off with a bang by taking the pole for the T1 race, despite a slick track in the morning due to rain overnight. According to the Chief Steward, it was the first ever pole for a female driver in a National race at Hallett. The race which included the T1 field started shortly after lunch on Sunday afternoon, with a total of 19 cars from eight different classes. Loth got a good jump at the start of the race and never looked back. She had driven the Hallett track before and this experience, combined with a well set-up car, helped her quickly distance herself from the rest of the field. Loth began encountering lap traffic fairly early on in the race and found her biggest challenge in the race was to quickly and safely negotiate her way through the slower cars, which she did like a seasoned veteran. By the time the race was over, Dr. Loth had a commanding 30 second lead over the second place T1 Corvette Z06 of fellow Texan and SCCA Run-Offs competitor Kevin Mixon. When the Chief Steward brought her the checkered flag for her victory lap, he told Deborah she was the first-ever female driver to win a National race at Hallett - a perfect culmination to her “Weekend of Firsts”!

Dr. Loth’s decision to compete in the SCCA’s Midwest Division this year looks like a good move as she is now the points leader in the division. Next up for Dr. Loth will be a few ViperDays club races, starting with Mid-Ohio on April 26 and then the new Mid-America Motorplex in Omaha, NE on May 18-19. Loth will resume T1 competition in the Midwest Division later in May, and also plans to compete in both the SCCA June Sprints at Road America and the newly-announced SCCA Grand Prix of Texas at Texas Motor Speedway in July. More information on Dr. Loth and her progress throughout the 2002 race season can be found at www.bobbyarchermotorsports.com and www.viperspeed.com.

Lil Schuey:

I hope you feel better now.... Spending afternoons listening to Jim Rome is really paying off for you.

Sorry if we're wasting your bandwidth, but since this post has been viewed by over 50 other people, there must be some interest there. In fact, you would be amazed how much positive feedback we receive from racers and racing fans who want to know how their fellow Viper drivers are doing around the country.

I'm certainly no "specialist", but I think you may need to see one about the level of caffeine you're ingesting.

Be sure to catch our report next week on Bobby Archer's SCCA race in Corpus Christi.

Hey "Lil",

Can't wait to meet you... are you coming to Mid Ohio? Maybe someone can explain the difference between racing and the Challenge series to you. I'm a bit new to this, but racing typically involves traffic, passing cars, getting slowed down by cars, and driving a less than ideal line the majority of the time. Also, I don't believe Viper Days requires ballast or throttle restrictor plates like the vipers in SCCA T1 racing. I feel that I am justified in saying that you cannot compare apples to oranges.

Way to go DEB!!!!!! AWESOME!!! The VCA members down here in the North Texas area have been watching her progress for some time now. Cream rises to the top! This win is likely to be followed by many more!

Congratulations to world champ Bobby Archer as well, a MAJOR supporter and sponsor of the VCA, who is rapidly becoming legendary as a teacher. Everyone who has taken his instructional courses continues to rave about them. VERY inexpensive too. If any of you want to find out how easy it is to participate in one of Bobby's classes, give Nancy Martyn a call at (817) 877-1772.

Dear Lil Attitude Problem:

I'm sure you can appreciate that I'm no more interested in your advice than you are in mine. I simply do not understand why you find that a win in a National T1 race is a "less than stellar" result. According to your logic, F1 need not publicize any more of Michael Schumacher's wins because the guys behind him just can't keep up.

My hat is off to all of the talented Viper drivers out there (Glenn, Adee, Mumford, to name just a few) who don't the recognition they deserve. (FYI - watch what a guy named Rick Kaplan does in a stock GTS with Hoosiers next weekend at Mid-Ohio). Why you choose to belittle anyone making the sacrifices (time and money) to race our beloved cars at a professional or amateur level is beyond me. Based on the feedback we get, we believe your opinion as to our publicizing racing results is shared by very few. Accordingly, we will continue this practice.

Lil Schuey:

I can't believe I've wasted even three minutes responding to your posts, but I'll do it one last time.

1) Note the subject of this Forum (post race results here). Enough said.

2) Let me know when you and your wonderful, witty writing style get anything published. We've had several articles published in Viper Magazine over the last four years, so I guess our resume speaks for itself.

3) Please also let me know when you or Tom win something. (Sorry Tom if you are an accomplished racer and I just don't know about it. Perhaps a little publicity..., but I digress.) Bobby Archer has 2 SCCA Endurance Championships and 2 SCCA World Challenge Championships to his credit, one of which was the first professional racing championship for Viper, so I think our current roster of talent is just fine.

Please email me directly if you really have more to say, as we're just wasting other people's time, and bandwidth, now.

Hoping this thread gets closed,
Rich

I just hope that the Vipers don't act like moving chichanes again this year at the runoffs.Better to turn it into a garage queen than to look that bad driving it. Bruce

"Lil":

I just bet you are a joy to be around as a person...

First potshots at Deborah, then potshots at Bobby, now potshots at me. I'm sorry, but I refuse to stoop to your level of childishness. Obviously, we are different people.

Incidentally, if Mr. Glenn, who I do not know, called me and said "Hey Rich, I'm going be competing in *** racing series this year, would you be interested in helping out (crew, publicity, developing sponsorship)?", I'd probably do it.

Have fun with all of your "WARS",
Rich

Why is it that the ones that complain the most do the least.....If they think they are all that, bring your butts to a Viper Days race or a SCCA regional or national event and teach all us no talent racers something.....It is so easy to criticize when they have no conception of what the heck they are talking about...
If you don't do they walk....then don't do the talk!!!
