High beam lamp type?

I picked up a few pair of the Silver Star 9005 headlamps. The books shows both the low and high beam are 9005, but the highs in the car (inner lamps) are 9011. Are these interchangeable. Or do I have the wrong bulbs in?
Thanks

You have the wrong bulbs in assuming you have stock headlights... or they are mislabeled. I have never heard of 9011's. Is the harness the same as the 9005's?

These are definatley Sylvania 9011. They have a glass envelope that sits out on exposed prongs. I am going to check to see if the 9005 will fit in the plug.

I have a 99 GTS and my high beams are 9011 also. I put in 9005's in its place. The tabs and the middle diameter of the bulb are the same so I don't see any problem switching them.

I also tried to swap out my high beams. The stock bulb I removed was a 9011 and I could not replace it with a 9005 or a 9006. It simply would not fit in the socket????

I had no problem swapping mine out to a 9005. I also tried the 9006's out and they didn't work. Try the 9005 out again, rotate the bulb, and push in while you are turning. You should find spot where they can go in.

Is there a relay or something that regulates the power going into each headlight? My driver side does not seem to be getting enough juice. I know the bulbs are good... just the lights burn dim. I've got 9005 lows and 9011 highs.

FastFang,
The 9005 did fit and I did replace for the low beams. I tried and tried to replace the high beam 9011 and could not do it with a 9055. Before I take it apart again, are you sure you are talking about the high beam 9011 that is the furthest most "inside" bulb?

Thanks, Rich

9011 and 9005 have the same socket. The 9011 is a high beam bulb. It was used in 99 and up because they are much brighter then the 9005.

Rich,
Yes, I did replace the inner bulb, the high beam, to a 9005. The stock bulb that was in there was a 9011. Very weird looking bulb also.

George,

So once you replaced the 9011 with the 9005, was it any better and which brand/type 9005 did you use?

Thanks, Rich

Rich,

The 9005's were brighter than the 9011's because I went with the Silverstars by Sylvania. Mopar carries them and the part # is P0009005ST. So I have 9005 as my low and high beam bulb. I hope this helps.

Discount (Advanced) has the Silverstars on sale for $25 a pair, they are usually $20 each, if anyone is interested. And the 9005's did fit both high and low.

My '94 service manual says 9005 low beam, 9006 high beam. Bought 9006s but won't fit in the high beam socket. The bulb has one tab in the socket, the plug has two. The 9006 bulb also has a wider base than the 9005. Better look what you take out before you buy.

The 9011 bulb is NOT the same as a 9005. My 96 GTS takes the 9011 high beam bulb and the only place I could find the bulb was at Dodge. I think they were $98 each. Part number 00154805.

Danny,
The 9005 fit the plug and twisted in position just fine. I have my two 9011's if you need another and I think I can cut down on the Dodge boys price :)
