Own a heavy electrical manufacturing business. We build circuit breakers for powerplants at 15,000 volts. Put myself through Night school for BSEE.

I almost own a 1997 GTS
I do own a 1970 Olds 442 and 1972 LT-1 Vette. Cars are my escape!

Since this thread is popular I was curious where the stats actually stood at this point. There are 84 posts not counting the original post that have obvious "Yes I have a degree" or "No I don't have a degree". There are 2 or 3 that are a bit vague so I'm not counting them.

Current standings are:

30 no degree 36%
54 degree 64%

I have no idea what made me want to do this but I figure the least I could do is share :)

BS in Biochemistry
50% in towards MS in Computer and Info Sciences

I've worked all my life since old enough...for nice cars. I've never owned a car in my life with more than 2 functional seats...and soon to own a Viper.

I've washed dishes, bussed tables, waited tables, bartended, been head chef in my own restaurant....retail clothing sales, shoe sales, medical research asst. Was on the alternates list for Med. School twice, just missed admissions...now, I'm a contract computer consultant working on DoD projects...specializing in Oracle DBA work.

Frankly, I STILL don't know what I want to be when I grow up...but, I do want to have fun getting there in a speedy car!!

Thanks for sharing the stats. I was going to try and do that, but you did it for me! My husband only had two jobs...pipeline company for 11 years, oil company for 25 years, no degree, just hard work and "good employee" who saved his money. I have a Master's...starting work on a Doctorate. Degree/no degree matters less than good money management skills. And those are LEARNED skills, by the way.

Bruce,

I posted my story a bit earlier in the thread, no college for me. At about 15 I got bored and started working. Got into tech at 18 and clawed my way up from tech support to CTO for a $25 million a year software company :)

No degree but plenty of hard work.
