Mounting GTech Competition

Has anyone come up with a clever way to permanently mount the GTech Competition unit? I'd like to permanently mount it to make use of the shift light as well as make frequent use of some of it's other features without having to screw around with suction cups (which I hate).

I played with mounting it in the left most air conditioning duct, but all I accomplished was to drop the unit into the duct plumbing and having to fish it back out. I also built a mount out of painted acrylic to mount it on top of the dash, but wasn't all that happy with the cosmetics or viewing position, though it wasn't all that bad I guess. Anyone come up with something better?

Make a bracket and mount it in the duct, then rune the wires throug it the tighten it up.
