Englishtown NJ 93 Degree Track Temp (horsepower index computer reading HORRIBLE)12MPH direct headwind Muscle Mustang and Fast Ford Head Editor Evan Smith (the same guy who set the mag record with a stock GEN2 Roadster )on his 2nd pass ran a 11.45 at 127 mph in my completely stock 200 MILE Gen4 Roadster on stock Pilot tires. Also the track prep was not that good as indicated by the fact that the 11.4 came about with a 1.9 sixty foot time (which for Smith at least is bad )Evan is confident given good weather, track prep and engine break-in a near 10 second pass on stock car with stock tires is within reach (today we stopped after only 2 runs car was new track and weather sucked )

Definately but all conditions(weather track prep ) must be just right.Today Evan probably could have gone 11.3 but it was not worth it to beat the hell out of a 200 mile car.Given the humidity, temp ect 127 mph track speeds on a car not even broken in was to me at least outstanding.Last year he ran a well broken in Zo6 in just about the same conditions and if memory serves me correctly turned 11.5 at 125.

That car is something else.To put it in perspective the magazine guys have a program which computes performance based on weather, barometer temp ect conditions.Analazing todays runs in todays conditions and transpozing them to a pristine early oct NJ day (low 60s-great barometer to make power )Smith figures that the 08 viper is easily capable of 132 mph trap speeds at a very fast track like Englishtown.

Someone may go 10's, but Evan Smith is about as quick with a stick as they get. For those that don't know who he is, his day job is Editor of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine (he has been with that publication forever). From his website, some comparison times with cars he's tested: 2001 Dodge Viper RT-10 (11.77/122 mph); 2004 ZO6 Corvette (12.04/118 mph); 2000 Cobra R (12.42/112 mph); 2003 Cobra (12.43/113 mph); 2005 Ford GT (10.98/129 mph); 2007 ZO6 Corvette (11.22/126 mph); 2007 Shelby GT500 (12.25/117 mph)

Smith is definatley one of the best (if not the best )running cars on stock street tires. I have been friends with him for years(he won a few Mopar Atl Nationals driving an old GTS of mine ) and have been lucky enough to attend many of the above test personally including the 2001 rt-10 , 2005 Prototype Ford Gt.(John Coletti former SVT Boss wanted to find out just how fast a slightly modded GT would go so Smith and Englishtown were the best choices )the 1999 Viper Coupe (owner by Joe Houss )verses z-06 ect.

It did BUT but please consider the following. The car was far from stock (no cats ,the boast was turned up and the computer was reflashed= the car made 625 to the tires )Tests were conducted in late October (perfect horsepower weather )and the car was run on drag radials. Also the holy hell was VHT out of the track that day.All in all a bone stock Ford(no pulley upgrades ect )GT will have its hands full with an 08 Viper

PS that particular day they also had multiple engineers from Ford there -to analyze and optimize every possible on hand tuning issue.Another important factor to consider (in that particular FGT test )was that Ford and Coleti did not car in the least if Evan broke anything (any part he needed was to be overnighted next day if neccessary )as long as he got the best possible et and trap speed. Not exactly real world test conditions.
