Thump noise from neutral to first gear

I started to hear a thump some times when I'm sitting at a light in neutral then shift to first with the clutch in. Thoughts on what it is? I just recently had a new rear installed with wavetrac insides. Maybe the installer didn't install u-joint bolts correctly?

I just lifted the rear of the car so both tires were off the ground. I turned one of the tires while the transmission was in 1st gear and the drive shaft will turn about a half inch each direction. So I think I may have one of two issues.

1) U-Joint straps or U-Joints on the Transmission side of the drive shaft need to be replaced. I cant see that side of the drive shaft with the plate still on. Will pull that this weekend. The U-Joint straps on the differential side look solid with no play.
2) Transmision needs to be replaced. If I do that....Recomendations...Also Ill change out the clutch and pressure plate / flywheel at the same time.

Any other thoughts?
