I placed an order for two Valentine 1 radar detectors and some spare parts so I could use them in my other vehicles. They called me this morning and asked me to wire transfer the money...***.

They said they have never recieved an order from me so I need to wire them the money...about 1K. Anyone know what they hell is going on?

Defiantly sounds fishy to me. I ordered mine about 3 months ago online with no issues what so ever. Did you call them from the number at the website?

They called me and left a message...I called them back. They said they have had a lot of fraud lately, and since I ordered additional parts (so I could move the detectors between multiple cars), I need to wire them the money. I don't get it, my bill to/ship to is the same, and my card is not new. That's a great way to lose a customer.

Yes, Valentine Research...pretty crazy. They only sell via web or phone...and they are requiring me to do the wire tranfer or no deal. I think I am going to purchase some ****** 9500i Detectors instead.

I think the ****** is what Walbanger has with the blue display.

That sounds really strange! I have had nothing but good service from them. I would not be without the V1. I would call them back on the web sites number or just order on line.

I did order online...then I called. They refuse to honor the order no matter what I do. I tried to change the order to 1 detector, etc...they refuse. They said it is a new policy, when it looks like I am being fraudulent (due to all the extra parts). They are just losing my business. I have a V1 in my ACR that I purchased from a friend. That detector is new. I wanted to buy some parts and two more units to use in six different cars. This just makes me very mad.

Dont fall for this SCAM. Get one on Ebay if you have to. Weird.

Isn't that funny...it is actually Valentine 1 I am calling. I just hung up the phone with them. They said it is a new policy; if you order more than one unit. If it smells like a scam, then it must be one. There is no guarantee on a wire transfer, they can send me the order if they like or keep my moeny, as they are in another state.

I am gathering you are not in Canada, but I have that issue all the time because I live in another country. That apparently means I am a scam.:(

Heaven forbid someone would want two of your products!:omg: Was not like you asked them to ship a TV or a VCR with your order!:lmao:

Best of luck!

I saw you said in your 1st post that they said part of the reason is you've never bought from them before. I've bought from them before. If you want, ill call and try to order for you. I'm sure it'll need to be shipped to me and then I can ship to you. PM me if you want to try this idea.

Well, I just talked with Valentine... and, as CarDude stated, it looks as though they are a bit more cautious now due to ''fraud problems'' at the end of 2008...noting that they seem to apply a tighter policy on first timers making a multi-unit purchase. This DOES NOT reflect poorly CarDude personally...just the few bad apples out there that make it harder for the rest of us.
I have been running with radar detectors for 40 years...have had most types...now I use ONLY my six Valentine Ones...they are worth it !!!
CarDude, I'd give them another call.

Sounds like an load!

If you use a credit card, provide them with a 16 digit card number, a 3 digit security code, the name on the card, the expiration date and ship to the billing address, V1 is air tight against fraud. First time customer or not, they need to explore other ideas/options for accepting funds or they will lose lots of business.

Like Chad posted, I'll buy it for you and reship if you want to try it.

Sounds like you gave them a fair shake by calling multiple times, time for them to do the same.

Good Luck

Yeah, I found this policy strange as well, as I have ordered two in the past without issues. As mentioned though, definitely a great detector. I've been using them for over 9 years with great results.

They had all this information as part of the web order. As I said before my bill to and ship to are the same. In my business we deal with fraud all the time, but we always give the customer a shot. The total was $1,067 with shipping.

I am/was so pissed I just bought two ****** 9500 ix...no false alarms every five minutes. Who cares if the Valentine is more sensitive, I would rather limit false alarms and get treated like a customer not a criminal.

CarDude:

The way they treated you cost them two sales. My wife just told me she was going to replace my 8500 in the truck with a V1 and buy me a new V1 for the new Viper as a 50th birthday present next month. After reading this thread, she asked me if a couple of 9500i units were as good. I told her to go with ******.

Thanks for relating your unnecessary issues with Valentine and saving a fellow owner a possible future hassle.

I run an online retail business. If they verify the billing address, CVV code, and the billing name. Then make sure they ship it to the billing address and get a signed delivery, there is no way for the credit card company to make them eat the fraud. If all of these steps are taken then the credit card company must eat any fraud.

Also, I would not wire transfer anyone money for an online or phone transaction no matter who the company is. If something goes wrong with the transaction you have no recourse. If its charged to a credit card and something goes wrong then you can call the card company and have them reverse the charge. Its good protection for yourself.

Thanks for the support everyone. Well I used my new ****** 9500 ix and I found it remarkable quiet...felt weird not having a constant beep, beep, beep. :)

Jeez.
I thought I was bad by asking the dude at the drive-thru, "You're SURE the order is correct?".

I would rather limit false alarms and get treated like a customer not a criminal.
Some may say owning so many nice vehicles *is* criminal.
:D :D :D
Sorry to hear of the difficulties, Lawrence.
Maybe just sick the hounds on them? :)
