As he was approaching a corner after a straight, my guess is he abruptly lifted off the throttle or badly mismatched revs when he downshifted. Either way, he learned a lesson the hard way.
Mistakes happen. Even to you, I'd guess. And yeah, it is amateur hour...for almost all of us when we take our cars on the track. This guy just got bit harder than most of us.
This is an old one. I remember seeing the driving instructor's assessment, which I belive did confirm missing the downshift. This video has been around for a while.
