Who\'s Driving the Farthest to VOI9?

OK - so I'm trying to talk myself into going to VOI9 as I'm sure it will be an absolute blast. According to mapquest - it would be 1587 miles, 22 hours, 50 minutes to drive. (Sure would be a much shorter time if we could drive at VIPER speeds and not the speed limit.) I looked into having it shipped - but can not justify the $2k for both ways. Debating on shipping one way ($1,025) vs. renting a trailer vs. driving?

Could be a heck of a roadtrip though? I kind of figure the depreciation for an extra 3500 miles is about $1000.

I'm driving and it looks like it will be around 2076 miles for me. SO i figure somewhere around 30 hours of driving.

I fly into Denver from Munich = 5250 miles.
Driving in a MiniVan (full of Viper stuff) from Vail to Las Vegas = 650 miles.

Total = 5900 miles, however, not in a VIPER!

Re: Who\'s Driving the Farthest to VOI9?

I live on the air base about 10 miles away, does that count for anything?

What gets me is that some members that live here in Vegas still haven't signed up because they think it's not worth the money. I guess they just don't have the passion for the car that I do. I had a choice of two bases to be stationed at, and the deciding factor was that VOI was going to be in Vegas this year.

For those of you that don't think it's worth it, check on the price of a weekend at Skip Barber and compare it to having them here all week. I just got back from taking my parents to the Forum Shops at Ceasars, the auto museum at the Imperial Palace, the "pirate show" at Treasure Island, the volcano at the Mirage, diner at Planet Hollywood (they have a GREAT mushroom swiss burger) and the water show at the Bellagio. With the exception of diner, it didn't cost a dime. There is SO MUCH to do, that even it you skip going to VOI it will still be worth it.

One last thing; if you want to go to the car museum at the Imperial Palace, ask someone at check-in or at the bellhop desk in the casino for tickets. I got 6 tonight and they were free.

I think Depreciation is a MUTE point. Gets me that a guy buys a 98 GTS parks it in his garage covered. Paid original around 60,000 for it. Puts 10,000 miles on it(still smells new) and sells it for 40,000. MAN, what great investment!!!! A car is built to be DRIVEN so wear'em out then rebuild em if they're worth it. Can't elieve all these guys that put thousands into Mods and Superchargers,TT's so they can polish, brag, and put a cover on'em. $ wheels are useless unless you can wear'emout!!!!

I am heading out on the sept. 18,from Ohio, and I am trailing mine. Post on the board the route most of you will use from the midwest. I try and take that route. Also if any of you have problems along the way post on the board. I will look at it each night and help out if I can. I'm realy looking for an excuse to drive mine, wife wants room and a cheap safe way to get the car back if I break it in Vegas.
