Had a run in witha Z06 tonite.
Was out crusin In my 97 GTS, w/ 10lbs ROE charger, Belanger headers, ported cylinder heads. A newer Z06 pulled up a long side of me and started doing some short acceleration bursts so I did a few back. He said he had headers, chipped, intake and some other goodies. Sounded really good. Need help, Viper overheats.
I've been driving the car around for a week now and no overheating problems so I'm officially declaring it fixed! The only problem is I don't know what fixed it. Was it changing to a different brand of thermostat or slightly enlarging the thermostat seal ? Any thoughts ?- Bo knows

Drove the car for the last three nights in a row. No overheating so far. The two things I did differently are changed from a NAPA thermostat to a Federated Auto parts thermostat. Also where the thermostat sleeve slides up and down in the thermostat housing it felt really tight in the seal, so I...- Bo knows

Need help, Viper overheats.
Have had the pressure tester on for 5 days, no leaks, no signs of coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant and no loss of coolant. I think JMCH might be right, the tester may be leaking down. I will test the coolant with the block tester but the engine has to be running to do it so I'm putting...- Bo knows

Need help, Viper overheats.
OK, supercharger is off again. Am putting in a different brand of thermostat. Crank pulley bolt is tight. Coolant looks clean. Did a pressure test on the cooling system. Pumped 17 lbs of pressure in the system, after sitting overnight its all gone, back to zero. No visible leaks. Pulled spark...- Bo knows

Ok, once again thanks for your replies. I put a new water pump in. Couldn't find anything wrong with the old one. The new one didn't make any difference. Talked to Chuck Tator, he had a few ideas that I tried and made no difference. My Viper is a 1997 with 37,000 miles on it. If anyone is...- Bo knows

Speedracer, thanks for your reply. I have a brand new 3 core radiator in it. It runs perfectly cool for a while then the temp shoots up, after I get on the gas hard the temp will quickly drop back down.- Bo knows

I got this all apart again and I can't find anything wrong. If anybody has anything, any ideas at all, I don't care how ridiculous it may sound, just throw it out there. I'm going to put in a different brand of thermostat although I don't see anything wrong with the two I took out. Thanks- Bo knows

Not happy today, just got beat, twice !
Feeling a little better about this race after reading all your comments. And yes I did enjoy seeing the McLaren although I would have preferred not seeing as much of the back of it as I did. I've been beating up on some of the Z06's and other exotics in our area and was getting a little cocky...- Bo knows

More info if anybody is following this thread. When car is started cold and is idling during warm up I get plenty of heat out of the heater. The radiator stays cold. As it warms up the temp gauge climbs. When it reached 230 still had plenty of heat from the heater and a cold radiator. I reved...- Bo knows

Ok, here's what's going on. Never had an overheating problem. I installed a Roe supercharger. Installed headers, had cylinder heads ported also. Changed thermostat to a 180 degree stat. and had stock radiator recored to a three core. Car started and ran fine for 2 weeks, didn't overheat at all...- Bo knows

Nine Ball, I' looking for longevity here so I shift at 5500. With this guy I could have shifted at 7500 and it wouldn't have made any difference. He was fast !- Bo knows
