Hey Daniel,
Unfortunately, a couple of our local guys including myself have had this type of experience with Quaife diffs. The bearings and gears do wear and the Quaife's ability to bias power does change over time and with varying conditions. As you said above, "almost always".
Dan
Don't believe that Unitrax was ever the National Distributor for Quaife.
I do know that they've had more than a few issues with teh Quaife itself in racing applications, hence the warranty changed from "everything including racing" to a limited warranty.
Still don't understand just how the...
Have had a few issues with Quaife as well. While they seem very good on the street, they run really hot at the track and require frequent gear oil changes.
Haven't "grenaded" one yet but have had sticking and drive-ability issues on the track. There's nothing like the feeling of changing two...
Wish the Gen IV were cooler running on the track.
Ran 170 T-stat for quite a while. Couldn't drive the car on the street at speed for more than 15 or 20 minutes in 70 F temps without the CE / lightning bolt / limp mode cutting in.
170 T-stat works great on the track if you warm the engine up...
The Racetech wide seat # 4009 will fit in the car and can be pretty comfortable for track use, the normal width seat will fit too, but if you are over 6' and over 200 lbs, you may want to go with the wide seat. Buy the Racetech brackets too.
You can buy a set of ACRX "floor" seat brackets from...
Mike,
Bruce Conklin (HB) has a black convertible with OE (black painted aftermarket) six spoke wheels.
They look good on his car.
I ran ACR black wheels on my black convertible at VOI Salt Lake city. Just found the pics.
Send me your email and I'll send you a couple of good pics.
Dan...
Shandon,
I ran the same set up you're running for quite a while. Engine made more power "cat-less" and sounded pretty good but was already very loud. Not too bad with a helmet at speed.
Can't run the car at Laguna Seca and a few other tracks, so the stock exhaust is back on, for the time...
OE springs are metric, 90 N/mm front, 190 N/mm rear.
OE ACR spring rates are about 514 front, 1085 rear in inch / pounds.
As above, 800 lb rears ride pretty well with the 514 lb fronts.
Nice thing with these is that you can adjust springs rates to you liking by swapping them out to lighter...
If this is the car pictured above, it was driven by a nice young lady. I instructed her at that Viper Days event in the green (novice) group. Jon B also rode with her.
No offs, nothing crazy, no missed shifts or crazy driving.
I drove the car the first half of the first session to acquaint...
A friend and now our local club president bought a set of 800 lb rear springs from me for his 09 ACR just prior to VOI 11 in SLC.
I don't sell springs but just happened to have a set that I bought and never used.
He drove the car to SLC from LA and according to him, the ride was very similar...
Agree with So Cal Rebel,
Thousands of miles towed in enclosed trailers using R hooks, 4 10,000 lb tow straps and crossing front and rear. No incidents and have lost multiple trailer tires.
DO make sure you get at least one "wrap" on your ratcheting tow straps or the straps can work their way...
What JonB says.
Belanger headers and Corsa track on Gen IV = best sound, very deep, not raspy at idle (like the OE exhasut), no drone, good hp and tq gains. Screams at WOT, cruises very nicely.
Opinions will vary greatly on this, just like what's a loud exhaust and what's acceptable.
Here's my .02 cents after over 100,000 miles in 4 Vipers (about 30K on the track) with OE suspensions, Motons Club Sports, Moton Motorsports and OE ACR KW's.
The ACR OE KW shocks are adjustable over a...
Thanks for the info.
I've tried the PFC01's and agree that they are rotor eaters. They also seem to "glaze up" a bit as they age and braking diminishes besides being noisy and super dirty.
I've tried the Mintex race pads and they worked OK but didn't seem to stop as well as the PFC 01's...
F8L SNK,
Very good to hear as you are in Texas and have to deal with heat at least as much as we in CA do.
I have the same set up in the garage waiting to install it.
How did you cut your fascia?
How much do the bushings cut into your turning radius?
What brake pads are you running up...
F8L SNK,
Great pics.
How do you like your set up?
Don't see a hose clamp in the photo?
See you haven't changed your caliper bolts to studs and added the braces from the caliper studs to the hose / duct ends (or maybe you have?)
Is it staying together on track?
Dan
Have run multiple sets of SSR wheels on 3 Vipers without issue. Lately an 09 ACR on high speed ovals with slicks pulling over 1.5 Gs.
Did you go four wheeling or hit something?
Never seen of heard of an SSR failure.
Now, if you mention Forgelines, yes, have bent one and seen many of them...
You will need a set of Comp Coupe brake lines.
You can buy them from Tom Francis at Viper Race Headquarters. They are nice pieces and work very well with brake ducts of any kind.
The CF brake duct ends from the CC will fit but will be very close to touching at full steering lock, and will...
