There are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many variables to make these types of generalizations. i've seen 14 sec 1/4 mile times and 10 sec 1/4 mile times in the same car, let alone blower/TT/HC setups. what is important is what YOU want to use the car for.
Why 650-700hp (as a magic #)? i can tell...
When you break 'em.
If you are like 90% of viper owners with high HP cars, you DON'T track the car so your stock rear-end stuff may last. On the other hand, if you street race every weekend and your average RPM is 5k+ in the car (or if you treat the gas pedal like an ON/OFF switch), them you...
With a VEC, we can fix the individual cylinders from being too rich or lean. change the plugs, set the injector offsets, and don't worry about it. and a tad too rich or lean on your set-up isn't going to hurt anything. i promise.
now show up at the GA VCA x-mas party today at 11 so i can...
To address Bob's points -
1 - Spot on.
2 - Spot on. We've all mentioned UGR, but they are just one of the many (and there are LOTS!). OR do it yourself. DLM has done more SC'd SRT's than anyone else. And his modifications are superior to other tuners IMHO. Not that others are bad, but...
Read Corkey Bell's "Supercharged". he quotes it there. there is a complex formula but 10-20hp per rib of a belt (plus a 3% loss through the belt) is what it takes to spin any supercharger.

A SC install is NOT that hard. In fact, if you call Paxton, they will usually send you the instructions manual in advance if you want to see what it takes. Even w/o the DLM tensioner set-up, you are looking at 650-700rwhp out of the box w/ virtually no tuning.
If you are a budget-minded...
The paxton kit (case kit) can be had for 6250 in lots of places. UGR was installing the kit for 9k at one time. they have an up-sell deal where they give you an AEM and an enhanced fuel system for 15k.
Depending on where in the world you are, there are lots of tuners who will bolt on the...
You've got mail!
1000+rwhp is pretty hard on a car as a whole.
Things that break:
Transmission(s), clutches, half shafts, driveshaft, differential. With a SC, the head units sometimes need to be replaced. And if you ever over-tighten a belt you could snap the snout off of a crank. And then...
I've been a passenger with you driving. There is NO WAY that car stays under 4k in the first 500 miles!
congrats on the car! You deserve it after all you've been through!
Can't wait for the pics!
Anxiously awaiting...

When I got mine, I had the guy that does all the Ferrari of Atlanta paint work do my paint work. He said the hood was built incredibly well and he didn't have that much to do in order to make it perfect. 3 coats of primer and 4 of paint made it look smokin' hot. Even for silver!!!
someone...
I'll tell you right now that if I knew I could spend 5k on a clutch that would cost me NO MORE over the life of the car, i'd buy it. But that tilton (as stout as it is) is rebuild-able for a fee... and i'm not quite willing to take a chance on that as I don't know any high (1000+rwhp) hp cars...
I wonder how they'd be different. The gen2 and gen3 trannies are interchangeable so i'd think the clutch/flywheel replacement would work.
odd...
the other high-hp clutch vendor is B&M who bought McLeod (sp may be incorrect). a lot of the super-fast vipers run that one.
