Re: Viper Cancellation officially confirmed 3/31
Is the end of the Viper good news or bad news for Viper owners? This is going to make Viper owners a little more exclusive. How many times can a Viper be reborn, most on this forum think the Corvette has become boring. There seems to be enough...
For what it's worth, if you want to compare the new Vette engine and computer to the Ford GT, the GT picked up an easy 100 HP with just a pulley swap and reflash. This may be a big hurt in a year or so as far as the Dyno wars go. If GM goes as conservatively as Ford did, there's a lot of wiggle...
Has Neiman-Marcus ever offered a car like that before, I think people may have wondered what a used Hertz car would ever be worth. That is big money to find out though.
I put a cut-off switch on the negative battery cable with an exterior key basically for safety in case of fire. I now shut it down if I'm not going to drive for awhile. I'm not sure if this does any overall damage to the electronics though. It does help with battery discharge.
I think a lot of guys do the quaife at the same time they do a gear change. Makes sense to do both at the same time. Just helps eliminate a possible weak spot down the road.
Just curious, how many first time buyers of 2008 Vipers? I think the Viper is living mostly on the blood of previous owners and enthusiasts. The new blood is looking for something new. If the Hemi-challenger and Camaro are seen as new, it shows where the Viper crowd is headed along with the Viper.
You have to bring the car to a motor vehicle office to register it and pay taxes, they have an inspector come out and check the sticker. You need to get the car smogged first. Just do what they say and hope the person you deal with speaks English. Took me about 30 minutes.
Re: The axe is coming
Most of the $400,000 super muscle cars at Barrett Jackson were almost being given away in the late 70's and early 80's. If the Viper does stop production just sit back and enjoy your car. Your kids will put your grandchildren through college with it, be happy, don't worry.
It sounds like hand held reprogrammers are on the horizon. A unit like the SCS will probably have three tunes read codes read engine and log engine functions then detail the car. I would wait a little while.
The first time you hit it you swear you broke something. After the Paxton I put in a shift light, too easy to hit the limiter in both first and second, 3.33 gears also.
