Here, I thought I was alone around here with this trip idea! Been up and down that strip of asphalt in my old viper many times top-to-bottom and it's well worth the extra drive time. I'll be going down again this year and plan on 4-5 days for it. I'd avoid 'Skyline Drive' because the speed...
Did somebody install a door popper? If so, have a look at the switch/relay (or wherever the 'open' signal comes from). It's probably the problem. But.............. Gen 1 door latches are basic little mechanical contraptions so nothing electrical should have anything to do with it.
Looks do-able. So far, after many years of ownership, I haven't had the need to pull the tranny. No clutch or slave work either (knock-on-wood) on my '94 but with each new tranny thread I wonder how I'd handle it with no lift. My day will come. Thanks for the pics guys.
Bummer. Snake bit for sure. I hope the two involved will be OK. Cold roads, cold tires too much power not enough sense.
That's not too far from me. It's been pretty mild around here so far this winter but last night was in the 20s... There's no mention of it but I'd bet booze was a factor...
My viper is driven 5-7k miles/year. I change the oil in late Oct or early Nov. and again in late May or early June. Brake fluid gets swapped every two years in Feb. and every three years I do the coolant and clutch along with the brake fluid. Feb. is a good month for getting it up and...
I have a spare, used set of Vipermania windows that I'd like to trade for a set of sliders. These are not perfect because they need new weather seals but are not otherwise damaged or scratched. The passenger side is the older version with no small sliding vent, just a full piece of plexi. The...
Since I'm homeless these days.... No pics to post but my avatar pic shows my '94 on the Dragon. Killboy shot it I think.
It's fun to remember these cars were absolute beasts back in the day!
You might hang on to your original setup for a while even after you install the new stuff. The after-market exhaust systems are louder and sound great from outside the car but create a harmonic drone in the cab that may make you grind your teeth and consider jumping off bridges. But then...
Congrats on your gen 1 purchase. ('95 was a great year for vipers.. the best of the gen 1s). Keep in mind,.... these early vipers are supposed to be exactly what you experience in yours. A bare-bones, high powered performance focused sports car with serious rubberneck twisting potential...
I've found over the years that a simple "Please, close the door gently." does the trick. I'll also add a "Check out how lightweight the door is. Just close it easy and it'll latch."
I don't know how Chad does it! My car usually just attracts car nuts and unfortunately, men. :crazy2:
To answer your question...everything else. That fat wire goes to the starter. the one in your hand goes to the battery. The shop manual is a good source when it comes to wiring.... BYW, that's a good place to hook up your new battery tender.
cheers
Good times. My first viper experience was a good while ago. I bought my 'dream' car, checked it out mechanically then took if for a 1200 mile road trip! Back in '00 these cars were extremely rare and my gen 1 twisted necks so hard I thought some would break!
cheers..
Re: Looking to buy in Virginia...can someone take a quick look for a fellow Viper own
Poor thing. Looks like it sat out in the desert... then was fed to the local mouse population.
Great review Wolf!!
Looks good ....
Are you going to swap out those 18yo. hoses? I went with black silly-cone jobs from Snake-oyl when I did mine... (good time to swap the plug wires too).
I suggest you clean and treat those pipe ends then re-spray for a long lasting finish.
May as well buy a new...
A word of advise:
Do not try to drain it buy pulling the plug on the bottom of the radiator! Just pull the bottom hose and let it go into your catch pan.... The drain plugs are known to rip out of the bottom of the radiator!
Can't remember exactly how much will come out. I'd have 3-4...
I'll take it!
POS cars are my passion....LOL
All the stupid crap on this car can be fixed and, really, somebody loved it enough to add the awsome crappy color stripes and rims...... ugh. I'd love to bring it back to normal. 21k could be a bargain... Go see it first of course.
Awsome car. I hope you win it Chuck.
I don't want it. Haven't been on a track in ten years.
For me, viper lost it's appeal when power windows went in.... but that's just my 'old school' take...
