Obviously, JonB hit the nail on the head!! That always happens with these cars! Without that loss of control it would have been a simple bit of paint work. As it is, you'll have to do quite a bit of buffing to fix her up.....
If it still seems shaky after tightening down, ... Normal for an old RT. (The suspension is rock hard). A better mirror question for an early viper would be: Why doesn't my mirror dimmer work right??
Some pics of what you have/need are appreciated. Seems like you need the thumbscrews that secure the side arms to the front section if it's like my '94. Let's see what you have and what it's for.
I may be able to help you when it comes to hardware fabrication.
Wow, I knew I should have called out sick today!! Brought the old viper in to work with me but it was HARD to turn the wheel into the lot...really hard! Great R/T weather!
- GTLaser, that must have been you I saw as I passed Katies C&C this morning... Solid Red GTS?
Cheers
I have to disagree with Bexar80 on one point. An agressive track alignment will definately cut your tire life in half if you really drive it on the street. It's been a while (7 years I think) but I used to run a '94 with a bit of neg camber up front and some neg toe along with some neg toe in...
I'd advise you to leave the spec. alignment unless you track the car. A bit of toe in back might help a bit on a track but will waste your tires quick on the street... Also, a race spec. alignment will make it track the ruts more and feel more twitchy.. (technical term...haha) I doubt you'll...
Push the button on both adjusters. Tug the black plastic cables back toward the windshield all the way. Get in the car and press the throttle to the floor hard..all the way down. Hear: click, click, click as the adjusters ratchet.
You're done.

The only pic I have of my first viper was taken by my wife, on the day I sold it..... She knew what I didn't ... I'lll assume she thought it was the end but a year later, another gen 1 appeared in my garage....and I'm looking for another lately.
Seen that pic....
Had no money back then but knew my time would come...... Bought my first in '99 for too much money so lived like the many noobs here with a fat note..... Times change and so do fortunes. (I also remember my first f---)....
haha..
OP, you might consider wiring the "mystery" switch to the fan relay for a bit a manual control. While the car should stay below 225 with the fan on, you may buy some time if it still climbs into the red by turning on the fan when she gets up to operating temp.... I also installed an upgraded...
Option 3 ...
My thinking is: if you really want to keep up with the modern rides you need to trade up and start with a car that's not 16 years old. IMHO the gen 1 viper is never gonna be as fast as you want it to be and modding the heck out of it is likely going to bring its value down rather...
If you plan to DIY I can tell you the job is obvious and straight-forward (and that 2.5k number goes down to around 600 bux :2tu: ).
Yes, you should do it sooner rather than later. You'll enjoy driving it even more knowing it's done and back to 100%.
That little hum you usually hear is the fuel pump. No pump no start. As for the pedal..... Linkage problem. Also, could be the clutch switch isn't engaging (no start without)...
Good luck with it.
