What should I pay for this car?

$55K or even $56-57K is not unreasonable for an 01 in very good to excellent condition. Especially one so close to home. If the car was in California, you'd have to buy it for *at least* $2K less to offset shipping and going to look at the car. Not to mention the hassle of trying to do a deal...

    Hood falling when opened...

The springs on the hood on my 97 GTS were weak, and although the hood would stay up by itself, any slight gust of wind would cause it to fall. In contrast, the springs on my 01 GTS' hood are stiff and have no trouble holding up the hood in a gentle breeze. Snake Oyl (and others) sell a...

    First 2004 Event for VA-MD Region -- March 20

Our first event of the year has traditionally been well-attended. 30 Vipers may be a stretch, but I've had 17 Vipers RSVP so far. Many more will attend unannounced. See you all tomorrow!

    Thinking about a MGW Glovebox

The glovebox is a great looking piece. The cupholder is of marginal use, as it's really pretty inaccessible if you're sitting in the driver's seat. It also takes away some room in that tiny glovebox.

    Couple Questions

    2. Cone filters may not be the best choice, as the ambient air they'll pick up inside the engine compartment will be very warm. 3. I'm using Summit P/N JET-61610 -- $29.69. It works fine.

    engine pinging???

My 97 GTS had a similar pinging problem. The Viper tech diagnosed it as a leaking intake manifold gasket. Sure enough, he replaced it and the problem went away. The IM gaskets on 97's were a TSB, and I'd had those replaced a couple of years before this problem occurred. I can't guarantee...

    Rear end whine

Some rear end whine is not uncommon. Some cars are quieter than others. Excessive whine could indicate a poorly set up rear end.

    Drive it or transport it.....

Do not buy a car without examining it in-person first. Your definition of "will not be disappointed" and the seller's definition may not be the same. You're spending at least $40,000 -- you need to know exactly what you're buying. I strongly recommend you contact the VCA president in that...

    Tow Vehicle for a Viper?

A Dodge Ram 1500 (4x4 or 2WD) with a 360 or even a 318 will have no trouble towing a Viper on an open trailer -- even if you throw four tires and a bunch of tools in the back. For maximum stability, I recommend a set of torsion bars (load distributing hitch). I logged over 30,000 miles with...

What is a Nice 98-99 GTS Going For?

Think about it: Suppose you own a 98 GTS which you bought new, and you've babied it's entire life. It's in excellent condition and has, say, 9000 miles on it. Never been wrecked or abused. (Well, OK, maybe once or twice you did a burnout!) You're thinking it might be nice to move on to an...

    How many attended VOI7?

At the pre-event presidents meeting, I seem to recall Dodge telling us there were 880 Vipers registered, with close to 1500 people expected. Incidentally, one of the displays in one of the many lobbies at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville at VOI7 was a model of the soon-to-open Gaylord...

    VOI 8 cost to attend?

Fiorano, Yes, I will drive my Viper to VOI8. You can expect a pretty large contingent of drivers from points East. To second what Frank says, this is not a free ride. You will get your $600-700 worth from Dodge at VOI8. However, your room at the host hotel will probably cost you...

    VOI 8 cost to attend?

The purpose of a Viper Owners Invitational is to attend with your Viper. I don't have a figure, but I'd guess less than 10 percent attend Viperless. Many of the activities involving driving your car -- autocross, on-track, road rally. This isn't to say you won't have fun without your Viper...

Wha t do you guys think of this?

The mats look like the $300 ones from Sanke-Oyl. Stripes on lower fascia are definitely non-standard. Find out the in-service date on this car. If it's less than 36 months ago, the car is still under the 3/36 factory warranty, and that means that you can purchase a new car (extended) warranty...

GTS Cargo Covers -- how much sound do they kill?

I have the Viperware one. It doesn't seem to kill noise like exhaust drone or rear end whine; however, it does deaden the rear speakers. The Viperware cover looks good, but is rather cheaply constructed and the inner support piece (composition board) will gravity warp right away. I do like...

    Sponges (washing)

I'm using a couple of cotton terry cloth wash mitts from Griot's garage. I dry the car with an electric leaf blower and Griot's microfiber towels, and I polish it with microfiber cloths. I used to use 100% USA cotton towels per Sal Zaino, but I think the microfiber towels and cloths are even...

ok I need to know I need help.

I drove a 2001 RT/10 today; only the third time I've driven one. (Nearly all my 60,000+ Viper miles have been in a GTS.) I noticed the same thing you did -- I perceived that I could see farther over the hood in the RT/10 than I can in my GTS (also an 01). I also noticed that the top of the...
