8AVETTE,
At only 50 units, these trucks are going to be hugely collectible, not to mention, fun at the track. If Jay Leno wants mine he's gonna have to pony up some serious cash. :-)
I think most 96 Vipers shipped with the GenI engine and cam profile (415 HP), but there was some production of GTS's with the GenII engine and cam profile (450 HP). Can someone confirm this?
Paul,
The "thunk" you are describing could be driveline backlash. The below is copied from "Frequently Asked Questions" in the "Members Only" area of the website:
Question 11:
First of all, I LOVE this new machine! Here's the observation, and I'm wondering if others have experienced...
Paul,
I know I killed a pound of brain cells partying at Umass, Amherst, for 4 years, but I’m not sure I follow your math. I like the first line; 3600 seconds in 1 day definitely equals 1 hour, but the second line starts getting a little “fuzzy.”
I also like your glow theory. It helps...
Have any of you folks noticed how bright the “alarm activated” light on the rearview is? It’s as bright as a dome light and it blinks 10 times a minute. It stays on for about .25 seconds and if you do the math that equals one hour a day. Now multiple that by 20-30 days and it’s easy to see why...
Cobra4B,
Although the Z06 and the Viper use the same Tremec T56 tranny, your setup uses linkage where the Viper has a straight input. The Z06 shift gates are parallel to the centerline of the car at 12 o’clock/6 o’clock where the Viper is angled at about 11:00 o’clock/5 o’clock, roughly...
Re: Why do you viper guys call CCW\'s Pruners?
When a supplier offers exception service and support, they tend to make a name for themselves.
As simple as that.
Skip,
I based my comments on a December article in Circle Track Magazine: “15 Must-Do Race Tricks For Any Engine.” One tip is to go electric on cooling fans. All electrical systems run off the battery and the alternator only needs to keep the battery charged; whereas, the power necessary to...
I’d like to know why Dodge didn’t go to an electric fan setup instead of a mechanical fan driven off of the power steering fluid pump. Not only does this design steal HP from the engine, but also it doesn’t seem to spin fast enough to pull a sufficient quantity of air through the radiator when...
Hey, look at the bright side. The SRT makes for a great portable hibachi. My wife and I like to cruise to the beach, park the grill and throw a couple juicy sirloins on the side-sills. Seven minutes on each side while I enjoy a couple of frosty Harpoon IPAs; then cap it all off with a nice...
I really wouldn't add anything to my SRT, design-wise. A nice pair of carbon fiber mud-guards for the front wheels would be something I would buy if they didn't look too tacky. There is a lot of chipping that takes place on the side and bottom of the sills just in back of the front tires that...
Re: Why does \"Road & Track\" bash the Viper?
I canceled my 3-year subscription (unpaid) to R&T the day after the infamous SRT “egg frying” article. We can all tolerate a little bias but that was way outside the bounds of journalistic professionalism.
The service manual does confirm that overfilling will cause the connecting rods to dip into the oil at the bottom of the pan. This will not only result in lost performance, but it also creates foam that is fed up to the hydraulic tappets softening their function, and equating into noisy valves.
