Does your factory RT hardtop scuff the paint off your sports bar??

Call this number at 3M and they can tell you where in your area you can get the film: 877-666-2277. They have a small kit no.84911 that is 12 in. x 75 in. for about $60. You can use the rest of it in other places, like the sill covers, behind the rear wheels, head light lens, back of mirrors...

    Stock Exhaust Tips

Try B&B fabrication in Phoenix. They make headers and aftermarket exhaust systems for the Viper and Corvette. I know that they have stainless tips that would be very close to the stock Viper. Their phone is: 888-228-7435

Does your factory RT hardtop scuff the paint off your sports bar??

I think that most RT owners are now using 3M paint protection film to eliminate the paint damage. Of course you will need to get it painted before applying the film.

    2000 GTS High idle

If you have over reved the engine by missing a shift, like going from 3 to 2, when you wanted 3 to 4, you could have bent the push rods. Luckily this is the first line of defense for the engine, rather than the piston hitting the valves. It could also be noisy fuel injectors, which is normal.

    Hood Weight - I've had a 1996 RT/10 hood

Re: Hood Weight - I\'ve had a 1996 RT/10 hood There were a few hood spring that got put on cars that did not have the proper heat treat and have a very low spring rate. I had the same situation on my 97 GTS and warranty covered the new ones. Your hood should stay up with the latest springs.

    Hennessey 550 Viper

I agree with Wayne. Lets tell it like it is. We learn a lot from these posts about tuners and their performance parts and how they deal with customers. I tend to give my business to those that have had no negative posts in the archives. As an example, we learned a lot about David Wilks (who now...

    Popping out of gear...

You definitely need to get the transmission replaced on warranty to fix the problem, since no Viper techs are factory trained to go inside for the repair. Some may have the capability, but the tech would not be paid enough by the warranty allowed time to do the repair. They are only paid for the...

    Should I oil my K & Ns?

The K&Ns are not paper as was your stock filter. It is a cotton fiber material inside a wire mesh structure that holds the red oil. When you get new K&Ns they are already oiled and ready to install. But, you do need to clean and replace the oil on a regular basis. You will find that bug will...

    Optima Battery News

I just talked with the Optima factory people here in Denver today. They have recently been bought by Johnson Controls which makes the Interstate batteries and many of Sears high end batteries. They should have a Group 78 gel-cell battery by next spring that will have no top posts and only side...

    Snake-Oyls & K&N's In...Now We're Talkin...

Re: Snake-Oyls & K&N\'s In...Now We\'re Talkin... JonB is right, if you shorten the Snake-Oyl tips, you run the risk of carbon particles leaving small burns in the paint across the entire rear panel. They were intentionally made longer to fix this problem.

    Quieting Borla Droning?

Zippy, you might try welding in a 3 in. crossover pipe just before the tips. My friend did this on his GTS and it eliminated the drone. His pipes also had a single oval exit instead of the dual tips, and this may have also contributed to the drone elimination. See photo. The tip was made by K&P...

What is the diameter for Viper wheel studs? >>

I had one gall and twist off during a track event when the wheel was hot. I now apply a light amount of anti-seize to each one before puttin on the nuts and have had no further problems. Do not let your Viper tech drive them out of the hub flange with a hammer. Use the right tool to press them...

Just got done painting the inside of my side sills...

This is a common problem with the side sills. Once you have taken them off, the screws will strip and fall out in front of your rear wheels and you will often get them in the tire. I have just completed a fix for this which uses button head machine screws and looks very professional. I took...

Best way to get sidesills back ON

My 97 GTS has the heat shield stapled inside the side sill covers. To make it fit over the exhaust with more clearance, I took a short 2x4 and used it to push the insulation into the sill cover and better fit the inside shape. After doing this the covers are very easy to put on. Next week I...

    Anyone know wheel lug pattern/size?

I agree with Keith. My engineering background says that as long as you don't exceed the elastic limit, (Hook's Law) of the lug bolt, it can be used over and over again. I have had them gall and twist off from repeated track use when very hot, but I now use anti-seize and no longer have this problem.

    Best replacement battery?

The Optima 75-35-925 works just fine in most Vipers without modification, except Fred Kinder's car which has a battery trey that is welded out of factory specification. A few Vipers have a battery trey that is not tall enough, but in most Vipers it works fine. Buy one from Reco Battery in Denver...

Leaking Oil Pan / Rear Main Seal

There was a problem with 96 and 97 oil pans, that leaked through some defective porous casting at the bottom of the pan. The best way to test for this is to take the pan off, fill it with kerosene, and place it on a paper towel. Watch for leaks after a few hours. These were originally replaced...
