Monday we find out who is faster at Laguna Seca, ZR1 or Gen V

MT: "The VBOX’s speed trace asserts the Viper pulls harder than the ZR1 on the straights"; MT: "The sprint to the finish is really close, and you can say the ZR1’s 0.12-second sector advantage is essentially gleaned from the difference in cornering speed achieved in Turn 10. The ZR1 has...

Monday we find out who is faster at Laguna Seca, ZR1 or Gen V

I remember watching the 1.33.9 video and toward the end the engineer (Winkler) who drove the record lap said that there is more in the car, i.e. the '10 ACR could have done even better, with an engineer, not a professional driver behind the wheel. Time for Andy Pobst to spin a couple of laps in...

    200 in the 2013...in Texas!

Pretty impressive, given the purported 300 lbs of downforce at 150 mph and 500 lbs at V-max. ACR gets over 1000 lbs at 150 mph, but tops out at 177 mph (184 for '10). Regular 08+ coupe sees only 100 lbs at 150 mph and has a lower (or about the same) top speed. Can't wait for the Ring times.

    Used Viper prices...

As ViperJon said, SRT-10 Viper coupe was only available in 2006. That alone makes it rare among Gen III cars (2003-2006), and automatically more expensive. Some people also prefer the coupe styling lines, the double-bubble roof, etc. All that, in combination with the latest possible gen III year...

Exactly. Sadly enough, 35k+ miles seem to make a viper a high mileage car...

Did you mean the gen 4 vipers being in the $60's? Multiple Gen 3's can be found in the upper 30's.

    Mopar Performance PCM 2008 Viper

Check engine light means a problem code was stored in your computer. Check what that code is (your dealer will probably have a scan tool). It would help diagnosing what the problem is.

    1st track test

11.5 @ 127+ indicates traction problems. Most likely a 2.0+ 60' at best. The only 11.5 @ 127/128 times on the Viper section of Dragtimes.com belong to supercharged or turboed cars. 125mph is a much more realistic trap for that ET, with a moderately good launch. Shaving even .2 in the 60' would...

Gen IV Header Install Tips and Tricks Wanted

As far as I know, the gen IV engine block and the car's frame should be the same as in the gen III (hardware changes mostly to the heads and some internals, obviously different headers too), so hopefully the gen III illustrated guide should be somewhat helpful. Good luck!

Gen IV Header Install Tips and Tricks Wanted

M&M's, but probably close enough. http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/653265-%28PICS%29-M-amp-M-Header-Install-%28PICS%29 oops, didn't realize it's for a gen IV, the above is for gen III.

    Increase HP

Look into porting the heads and intake. In combination with the other mods it should push you over 600 whp. K&N filters not advised for the Gen IV.

    Gen III oiling issues

NO HEMI, sorry if I made it sound that disappointing. I'm just professionally distorted to always think about worst case scenario first... For the record, my '05 has been my most reliable car out of four so far (zero issues, knock on wood), and such a blast to drive that I'm totally in love with...

    Gen III oiling issues

BUMP. Sorry to bring back a thread that is beyond exhausted, but I think with our aging, multiple-owner gen 3's and expired warranties this is a very imporant question to keep in mind. With our brittle (especially '04-'06) connecting rods a spun bearing can cause a lot of expensive damage (e.g...

What would be a realistic price for this car?

Actually at 0:54 in the video from the ebay link (posted November 12, 2012) you can see that the mileage stands at 36,942, so it's higher than the 36,745 from the wreckage photos. However, the ebay ad lists it at 36,599 which is a definite misrepresentation. Still, at least it appears that the...

    Gen III oiling issues

One important part of Viper Specialty's earlier comments was that rod bearings (the other Gen III weak link) might also need to be addressed, as they usually are the first victim of the poorly designed oil system. Does anyone know: i) how hard it is to inspect the rod bearings for...

    Gen III oiling issues

NO HEMI, I think that you may be referring to idling at normal operating temperatures. If that's the case, I think it's normal for 2005 and 2006 cars for the oil gauge to be at 25-30 psi when idling (or no throttle) at normal operating temperature, so as far as I know it should be nothing to...

    Gen III oiling issues

Found a great thread from '07 where everything is explained in much greater levels of detail: http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/600823-Spun-rod-bearing-at-3-4-pistons?highlight=quarter In '07 that was less of a problem because of effective factory warranty on most Gen III's. But even...

    Gen III oiling issues

I have definitely not given up on the Gen III platform. Based on information I've gathered mostly from Dan's informative prior posts, here are some pro's and con's (all con's fixable): Gen III Pro's: Better hydraulic cooling (Gen IV electric); Infinite tunability (possible forced induction...

    Pics of my 08

Sorry to detract from the main theme, which is the stunning pictures of your car and girl. But as far as I know they did two pieces on the Gen III (a black vert in '04 and a red coupe in '06) and nothing else that I've seen on the viper since. I'm pretty sure they'll do the Gen V, as they...

    Gen III oiling issues

Konza, thanks for the useful video, helps illustrate the point quite well. Maybe the reason that street-driven cars don't grenade is that, per the video, straight acceleration, hard braking, and even hard right cornering don't seem to impact oil pressure that much, as inaccurate as the OEM gauge...

    Gen III oiling issues

I am surprised that there isn't more information out there about the poor design of the Gen III oiling system, or that an upgrade is not a very common mod (or at least not commonly included in mod lists). Maybe it's all there but I just lack the killer searching skills necessary... Anyway, glad...

    Pics of my 08

Wow! Just wow! Last picture leaves me speechless... Btw, the first picture in this thread looks like a frame taken from a British Top Gear special on the Gen IV Viper. I could hear Jeremy Clarkson going: "You have been waiting for this... haven't ya?" Sadly, they never made a piece on the Gen...
