My buddy noticed a clicking noise when taking off from a stop in my GEN I. It doesn't do it every time I take off just every once in a while. It's just one or two clicks when taking off then no noise and it drives fine. Honestly I think it's always done it (off and on) especially when taking off after sitting for a while.:dunno:

It sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car. I had a mechanic change the fluid in the rear end not too long ago he put in it he put the additive. (It was the parts store additive not mopar, the parts numbers did match)

This is my second rear end (although used) I hope I won’t need a third.:(

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Yo Dan... crawl up under there and scope things out. Take off the tranny cover plate thing (you know, the one with about 1,000 bolts holding it on) and make sure all your nuts and bolts are tight. I had a weird clicking noise happening not too long ago, and did notice it getting worse after a while. It went from clicking.... to knocking, then I decided to inspect. It was nothing major, just my tranny crossmember bolts were somewhat... not tight! So anyhoo, just crawl under there and take a look. Don't want it to become anything major if you know what I mean... Good Luck. -Paul

Explaining Viper things to you
U-joints on half shafts good? Check the brakes too. I've got a non Viper vehicle that the brakes make ticking noises when cornering w/o brakes. Really. No BS on that.

I searched a little more and found this thread:

http://forums.viperclub.org/showthread.php?t=596344&highlight=click

This post got my attention:

The noise is common on early RT's and has to do with the splines going into the rear wheel hubs. Besides being an annoying noise, it is not a problem and I have never seen a failure. To get rid of the noise you need to change the half shaft yokes and rear bearings. I used a lubricant on the splines on a few cars and it reduced the noise quite a bit. It is related to some play in the yokes and makes a cracking noise when moving from a stop. There was an early service memo for a matched hub and spline.

I still want to go over my car before the next track day. But this sounds like my problem. Maybe.:dunno:

I hear it on my GTS as well... only on slow parking lot speeds. I saw on another threat it might be bushings (?). Unfortunately, I'm not much a mechanic to know any better.
