I was lucky enough to go to the 2001 Detroit Auto Show Supplier Preview tonight after work. I saw the new 2003 Viper in all its glory. It does look much better in person, but I still would never trade my 1996 GTS for it. I will probably be buried in my '96 GTS. I loved the GTS-R concept car, but this roadster leaves something to be desired in the styling department. No brochures were out for any of the Dodge vehicles yet though.
I wish I had known years ago that I could get into the auto show before it is opened to the public, since I am a Ford Motor employee. It was such a pleasure not having trouble finding a parking spot, waiting in long lines, and being elbow to elbow with tons of people like I did in the days it is open to the general public. I didn't have to contend with companies being out of brochures and posters. I didn't have to wait in line at all to play with the cool interactive driving simulators and stuff. I also got to go right up close to almost all the cars, instead of having to stand 10 feet behind a glass gate. Heck, even most of the pretty models were there practicing their lines. What else could a car lover ask for!!!
