Explaining Viper things to you
I saw that auction and thought the same thing; a gen 1 motor. They may have taken it out of a 2001, BUT...

Unfortunately, they left it to you to identify what type it was; Gen 1 2 or 3.

Sounds like your bad. :nono:

That is a gen 2 motor. If it was a gen 1 the ALT would be between the t-bodies on the intake. Why is the damper off of the crank?Did it spin off or was the car in a wreck? The VIN number is stamped on a pad on the passenger side of the block so you can see what year it really it.Hope for a 96-99.Good pistons and the 708 cam.

With the heater core coolant connection on the back of the head?

The last thing a shipping company wants to haul is an engine block leaking oil and anti freeze, all fluids are usually drained.

I certainly won't argue with Tom as he's more the expert than me, but what is this? My '01 has a plug in the head there as the heater core connections go to the front.

The timing cover is broken where the AC compressor would mount.Maybe from the damper coming off?It has the plastic pan gasket that also puts it as a earlier 2.

Dave are you trying to start something with me?I got my viper tech badge from a box of ******* jacks. How about you

The coil packs bolt to the block at the back of the intake on a bracket. On the GEN1 motors they bolt on the back of each cylinder head The boss you have circled looks like one for the coils but not 100% The other items you linked to are not factory.Someone else might be able to tell you exactly what they are.Piggy back computer system not sure whos.
