I went to the fairly new Irwindale 1/8 mile Drag Strip this weekend which is conveniently located for many of us SoCal folks. It turned out to be uncrowded, and to be a good practice track. I got in 6 runs in under 2 hours and could have ran at least a dozen if I stayed for the whole day. You may want to check it out if you don't want to travel far just for some practice runs.

Here's a link to the track (for info): http://www.irwindalespeedway.com/dragstrip/site/dragsched.asp

and a link to a couple of my time slips (I'm car 1360 of course): http://viper.epikos.com/Uploaded/18121315PM1092.jpg

Joe: I ran ET Street Drag Slicks/Skinnies. I also have ran about 2 second 60 ft. times when on street tires.

Mods are Borla Headers/Catbacks. Slicks give you about 1/2 second, so you're right in there (about same Mph). I did a couple of higher speed runs with a slower ET.

This was my first time out with the slicks. I need more burnout/launch practice and I think I can shave off a little more.

Does the car "walk" with the slicks? and what are the odds of breaking a half shaft? Im considering a seperate set of wheels for slicks also.

I think the odds of breaking u joints is fairly high. I wasn't worried about u joints as much as I was having a flying halfshaft loose under the car breaking stuff. I just got Unitrax HD halfshafts and plan on also putting on safety loops. My understanding is traction at the racetracks I go to is not the best so i have been thinking drag slicks also, but that means beefing up the drivetrain.

Joe: It hooks right up. I should have mentioned that I have the Unitrax half shafts and 3:45 gears. Fortunately for me Unitrax is only a few miles from my house, so the install was easy.
Some people get by with stock shafts, but I highly recommend the upgrade if you go to slicks.
I bought my wheel/tire package from John Purner http://www.ccwheel.com/
There's quite a few people on this forum that run the Purner/Unitrax combo, and don't break things.
