Today\'s Viper action (and photos - great one for steel gray fans!)
Today was the day that we set up for the local Viper Club to join us at an SCCA autocross event. As many of the Viper owners were being treated like kings by their grown children, the turn out wasn't quite what we had hoped for. Still, four of us showed up for the action and a fifth showed up to cheer us on for a few laps. It started out when I met one of Kansas City's newest VCA members, Greg with his 2000 RT/10 in steel gray. Camera in hand, I caught a couple pictures you might enjoy:

I really liked this shot and for you steel gray fans, feel free to add it to your collection (personally, I think it is "brochure quality"):

We arrived and got registered. We gathered quite a crowd in no time - big surprise! We had a nice pallette of colors, especially after Kory showed up with his GT2. Here we were before he got there:

I then zipped back home to pick up my eldest son so that I could have a navigator for the cones. Father's Day well spent! I caught some decent shots, including Frank as he made his way through the course:

Everything went great and we did pretty darn well for three novices and one guy who is better on the drag strip (guess who?) Our pace setter was the feisty young Greg, who went around the majority of the course sideways. It was wild to watch and my son egged me on to be just like him. We did a few similar moves and I was within a half second of him when we wrapped up the days activities.
That was when we got in a little bit of trouble. Well, you know how those young pimple-faced kids are, so Greg went off to a totally different parking lot (no where near the autocross or autocross parking, of course) and celebrated his victory NASCAR style. It was hard to tell where the smoke ended and the clouds began:

By the time he had finished up, he had made a beautiful set of Olympic style rings:

Unfortunately, this was not a Viper event and some of the SCCA folks were less than thrilled with the antics of "that Viper guy". They stopped by to let us know and remind us of the venue. Greg made his apologies and all was better. Gary was still down by the autocross (we were nowhere near it) and some that could see the spin in the distance were high-fiving him, just for owning one of these awesome beasties. Not to worry, as a duly appointed moderator (grin) I went back later on in my "civilian" car and made sure all was well. They were mildly amused and just wanted to make sure that such "distractions" didn't happen again. Those darn kids... Oh, and my son now thinks that Greg is THE coolest guy on the planet. I may have to buy new tires to keep up.
It was a happy Father's Day and yet another GREAT day to own a Viper!
