First round of pratice looks like a GM love fest in the top 9. Maybe the corvette forum is right. The Z-06 is faster!!

Well, they had close to a 50% attrition rate at Sebring compared to the Vipers that finished 8 of 10, all 8 of which finished on the lead lap.

I suppose the big thrill of racing a Vett is wondering if you'll finish the race.

It's a shame we can't watch these races televised live, instead we get stuck with the masses watching NASCAR commercials and oval track borefests almost every weekend :smirk:

True.

Start up a competing racing channel and SPEED would be restructuring their deal with NASCAR in a heartbeat (GM pun intended).

I thought Sonny Whelen was a Viper guy.
He is although he is piloting a Z06. From a previous conversation with him he is allowed to perform many more setup adjustments with the Corvette than he can with the Comp Coupe or something along those lines.

Whoa! Just checked the second round of practice. I hope we are sandbagging. 1 Viper in the top 14. But we have 9 of the bottom 10 in that session. Hopefully as these Corvette's self distruct per Chucks keen observation they don't take out the field behind them!!!

This is the whole reason I enjoy watching same-make classes more than manufacture vs manufacturer races. WC tries to make it competitive by penalizing the big V10 but it ends up being unfair to everybody regardless of what camp they're from.

It would do Dodge some good to throw prize money at the VRL and set up a Viper vs Viper class and a Vett vs Vett class. Maybe even a Mustang vs Mustang class and let them all race at the same time. That would be great fun to watch. I bet it could have generated more interest than the investment they've made in NASCAR the past few years. Even moreso in light of NASCAR's COT.

BTW as many folks know I also happen to be a NASCAR fan but NASCAR has peaked and they did it basically with a two-make format - Ford and Chevy. I don't see NASCAR making any significant fan growth spurts with the addition of Dodge or Toyota.

If I am right about any of this I am available for hire but I'm not cheap.

Wow that is pretty detailed coverage Chuck, but it makes me want to see it even more! :(

What kind of penalty does the Viper get, some kind of restrictor?

BTW, the Cup race today wasn't too bad, Texas is a little more exciting than some of those "cookie cutter" tracks. I still took a nap halfway through though for a few
