Yeah, I'm surprised/skeptical at the numbers higher than 25 mpg - I wonder if they didn't completely fill the tank up afterwards. I've actually done a number of tankfuls at probably 99% of the time in 6th gear (only time out of 6th was getting on and off an interstate), and my best for the '95 was around 23.2 mpg, and the best in the '00 was 22.63 mpgI have yet to go on a trip where I'm almost exclusively in 6th at 60+ mph, but I've had a few times where that was the primary content of the trip. I've calculated about 21 mpg max.
Hmmm - my city and work commute (city/highway) mileage in the Viper is typically between 10 to 14 mpg. My SUV (Durango w/ 5.9) is usually 12 to 15 mpg, and its insurance is indeed cheaper than the Viper.City-only, I get about 12 mpg. City-highway, 15. All highway, 20. Not bad at all, considering every SUV owner who asks about it is all of a sudden cursing themselves for owning an SUV instead of a Viper. Then they hate it even more when they find out my insurance is cheaper!
Does the number of gallons in your tank change whether you're on the freeway or how fast you go (sort of a relativistic effect)? In my '94 I can get about 22 gallons on the freeway, of course I gotta be pushing 110mph...
