Has anyone change their Viper R12 a/c to 134a or ES-12a? If so how well did it work? I don't usually use my a/c ( the top is never on the car )But would like to have it if I wanted to use it.
Thanks.

The last time the dealer fixed it under warrantee they listed it as R12. To de honest I never looked at the car to check.

In '94, Gen 1 is 134a.

The main incompatibility is with the lubricants used between the two systems. The orifice and other specific sized piping will allow 134a to work in an r12 system, just not as efficiently. I've seen and heard systems that were well evacuated (to get the lubricant out) and simply recharged with 134a and do OK.

All Gen 1s???? How sure are you? I had it stuck in my head that my '95 was 134A, and I'm pretty sure the '94 I had as a loaner for 9 months was also 134A. Sounds like '92 and '93 might have been 12, and they switched to 134A in '94?

Randy...... You are correct! Last night I broke out the Manual and in 1995 the a/c uses 134a.

Cool - so perhaps your question is answered, indirectly.

I charged my 95 for the first time yesterday. I went to Autozone and they had the kit, normally $49 for only $30.

It came with 3 bottles of freon, 13 oz. each. It is a mix of freon, leak sealer/detector, oil. It has hoses and a gauge, and adapters for the old cars in case you need it.

Great deal. The individual bottles for sale were like $10 for just the bottle and they were only 8oz.
